Since most christians only regard the books in the canonized bible (as decided upon in 370a.d.) as scritpure; Should there be a new council where newly discovered text's from many different cultures and continents can be considered and examined and eventually be accepted as scripture. For example maybe a re-examination of the Gnostic Gosples (with an open mind, and not in a combative spirit) would, or would not prove useful.

A council would not be God's method to clarify doctrine. That was the Emperor's idea in order to have the church serve him politically.

God's method is found in Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

Of course God used councils to answer questions of Doctrine. See Acts 15 and the First Council of Jerusalem. Also, God established a Church with Bishops (Apostles) and promised he would send the Advocate to lead them all into truth. Finally, you should realize that the Canon of the Bible was decided by councils - Council of Hippo and Carthage in the late 5th century? Did God forget to send the Holy Spirit then. The gnostic gospels and various other documents (~80) were examined and only 27 deemed inspired.

I have read the Gnostic gospels and they strip Jesus of His deity. If Jesus is less then GOD, then salvation is a fraud. The scriptures are clear on the position of Jesus, He is God almighty. See Colossians 1 :14-19; Philippians 2:5-11; Hebrews 1; Revelation 1:17. John addressed the Gnostic's in John 1:1-18, (I concentrate on verse 1 in the Greek word order) In the beginning was
The Word, and was with God and God was the Word. (Ev arche' nv O' Logos, kai O' Logos nv pros tov Theov, kai Theos nv O' Logos)
V=n, O' is pronounced "hoy" n= long e. The Greek word order makes it clear that Jesus is the Word, and the Word is God. One must remember word order is flexible in Greek, it can be used for emphasis as it is here.

The books of the Bible, including all of the New Testament were already accepted a long time before the council of Nicea. The Gnostic "gospels" were never accepted to begin with. www.equip.org

Oh boy, lol. I wonder how many denominations of Christianity would be deemed as heresies this time. I would like to see some of the Gnostic Gospels added as Scripture. Some of the sayings of Jesus in those Gospels sound more like the lifelike Jesus rather than the super-human divine savior of the Bible.

We are in the Holy Spirit administration now, and with that comes all the instruction you need for living. Let God talk to you personally through His Spirit and to your spirit. Let all else from outside influence be your confirmation. When the Holy spirit come into your life He brings all scripture that is truth with Him.It is time to get away from all of the councils and meetings of men, unless the Holy Spirit has brought them together for collective instructions. He would instruct us thoroughly from with in the soul realm first and then even the meetings would be a form of confirmation when like minded men come together and say the same things. Two or more witnesses.

The gnostic gospels? You mean the same books which say salvation is only available to a select few elites and which also say that women have to become men in order to get into heaven? Yeah let's put those in the canon . . . sounds like a great idea.

there SHOULD be...but I doubt it'll happen. people's beliefs and practices are so deeply ingrained (to the point of being zealots, in my opinion), that only truly open minds can embrace a "new" Bible...and an "open-minded zealot" is an oxymoron if I ever heard one...

great question though!

Jesus will make sure the truth comes thru and people see it. With the idiots today and over 3,000 religions in the world could you just see the lies that would be given to us?

Yes, it would help greatly. Maybe they could get rid of the Revelations once and for all.
