One word - moisture.
It doesn't completely protect, but it helps.
I have heard of kids who take things right out of the microwave and burn their throats by swallowing hot liquids before checking with their hands to see how hot anything is.

You would normally blow on Ramen noodles. I dont think you can just eat it that way. The inside of our mouth can withstand a higher temperature maybe because it is already 98 degrees in there. Our skin is thin, and not designed to handle extreme temperatures.

It's not, if you put something hot in your mouth it will burn the inside of your mouth just like your skin. As for the soup, if its hot u usually blow on it before putting it in your mouth, therefore cooling off the soup. If you shove it down your throat while its hot it will burn.

Haven't you ever burned your tongue on hot soup??
That hurts like heck.
For one thing, a whole bowlful of hot liquid is much more likely to burn somebody than a spoonful is.
For another, by the time you actually eat it, it has cooled off some.

The mouth does not have as many nerve sensors as your skin does so it does not register pain as easily. It can still be burned though!
