I have been a successful car salesman for 23 years! The reason for my success is that I am honest with my customers.
I am: Product Certified, Master Certified, & keep an outstanding CSI rating. I have been rated in the top 10% in the country for customer satisfaction. I make it a habit of ALWAYS delivering Everything that I promise, & NEVER promising anything that I can not Deliver. I look at each & every potential customer as not just a sale, but a customer for life. If I sell them a vehicle, the chances are that, I will sell them (again), their friends, their relatives, & their neighbors & co-workers vehicles as well.
I AM NOT ALONE!
There are many other successful salespeople who follow the same principles & ethics as myself.
It is discouraging to see the myth of the dishonest 'scumbag' car salesman perpetuated, with questions & answers like some of these here. When I, and others like me, have had enough 'bashing' ...we will simply retire, and then what will you be left with?

yes you can be honest,,my family owns a dealer ship,,and our way of doing business has always been honesty,,we have lost a few sales probably from it,,but we have also been in business for 45 yrs,,so yes you can make an honest living doing it,,to lie to sell a car just isn't worth it,,and we have always operated on that belief,,and will continue to do so,,if and when it comes to the day we have to lie to sell a car,,we will shut the doors on the business,,and never re-open them,we firmly believe in being honest,,and if a salesman is caught being dishonest,,he will be removed from his job,,i hope this helps

Sure you can, but remember you have mark up costs. Like if you have a car on your lot for longer than 30 days, that is money out of your pocket. You need to sell cars fast so you can make your bills payments ontime. This is why car dealerships charge for all extras. It is a rip off I agree, but unless you can make money dealing with cars, and still make your mark up without sticking it to people. You'll do good.

Sorry folks ! The only way to be successful selling cars is to be honest with your customers. If you give your customers a fair deal they will come back to you and send friends and family members to you. Thats the way to build a customer base and be successful. I have been in the car business since 1986.

I think most people can see thru the dishonest salesperson. I know lots of honest salesmen and a couple women, that are very successful. The women are the ones that will do real well. 1/2 the buyers are now women and they like to deal with saleswomen.

how much does McDonald's charge for extra cheese? how much did that cheese cost them? there you got ripped off for like 300% profit. everything that is for sale has a markup, cars being one of the least profitable. people do not sell things as a hobby. learn to deal with it. it will never change.

YES YOU CAN MAKE MONEY, AND YOU CAN BE HONEST. THE CONCEPT WITH USED CAR SALESMEN IS THAT, " DON'T GIVE A SUCKER AN EVEN BREAK", " CAUSE AINT NOBODY GIVING US ANYTHING !, MENTALITY LEVEL OF THEIRS. IF YOU TREAT PEOPLE NICE, BE UP FRONT, FAIR, THEY WILL IN TURN TELL OTHERS , AND SO FORTH. THEIR OWN REPEAT BUSINESS WILL KEEP YOU BUSIER THAN THE OTHER GUYS. THE BEST THING FROM BEING THE GOOD GUY, YOU CAN LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND KNOW WHO YOU ARE. I'M SPEAKING FROM YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN THE SALES FIELD.I STOPPED WORKING 23 YEARS AGO AND I STILL COME UP ON PEOPLE THAT REMEMBER ME AND WISH I WAS STILL WORKING.. I TOOK PRIDE IN MY WORK, SO SHOULD YOU.

Yes, there are reputable places to buy. I live in a small town. I know the ones to go to and the ones to stay away from!! Experience is the best teacher.

My dad is part owner of a car dealership and he started out as a salesman, he said you always gotta be willing to rip peoples heads off.
my dad said he always used to get asked this question
"How do you sleep at night"
"Very well on my Ralph Lauren down comforter"
you dont make money giving **** away.

I do not know how accurate the last line is. Yes, you can be honest. You do have to work for a company that prides itself on being honest with the customers.
