Hake isn't a substitute for Cod, like Pork is not a substitute for Beef. Hake is a white fish with a great taste, usually fried as fillets or cutlets or baked whole. Most of the Hake we catch ends up in Europe. The Spanish are particularly fond of it.

Hake is quite nice. A good alternative to cod or haddock.

I used to eat it a lot by choice before cod became over-fished, I have not had it in 10 years due to vegetarianism but it was a tasty fish before I stopped eating it.
