The Earl of Sandwich invented it. he succeeded his grandfather at the age of ten to be the 4th Earl of Sandwich in England in 1729. he was born 11/3/1718 and died 4/3/1792.

I usually don't like *who invented* questions, because a lot of the time we don't know for sure, but we might know who is credited for it. My guess is the first fella or woman who had two slices of bread, a piece of meat, and was too busy to sit down to eat it:)
