The price should matter. I would say to look at what kind of personality he has, your relationship, and his job. An executive could wear one with diamonds, but a plumber would be laughed at. A simple $50 gold band is classic and something that is instantly recognizable that he is married. Because your fiance is big (tall), you will want a thicker band for his finger. You can also get a ring with a design in it. Here are some that I like:

Take your fiancee shopping. Let the both of you decide which ring to buy. I am not a fan of gold, but a rule of thumb is the higher the karat the softer the metal. 14k gold is going to bend easier, need polished more often, and more than likely cost more before a 10k gold ring. Silver, Titanium, and Platnum are other options besides the traditional gold band. A wedding ring can be anything you want it to be. Get something thats going to last a lifetime and that YOU will be happy with. Don't get what everyone else has or what tradition says you must have. Good luck and Congratulations!

My husband did not want a diamond and I was disappointed. He was not used to wearing jewelry so wanted a plain simple gold band. That is what I bought him with what they call a comfortable fit. It is slightly rounded so there are no sharp edges cutting into the finger.
Is you fiancee a flashy dresser or a jeans and tee shirt kind of guy? That should give you an idea.
And don't spend above your means. My friend did that and 5 years later he is divorced and still paying for the ring his ex wife is wearing.

I can't imagine spending that much on his ring personally, but that is up to you. My husband has a yellow gold ring with a milgrain edge, which looks like little beads along the edge. It looks just like the ring my mom gave my dad, because I always thought it was pretty. The diamonds would not have suited my husband, but maybe yours would like them. Why not take him shopping with you and let him try some things on? He knows he'll be getting a ring and he's going to be wearing it forever, so he might as well like it! Also, I wouldn't go with too high a karat because men are always working with tools and things and the higher the karat, the softer the metal is. 14 is a good one for me.

my husband is 6' 7 too!!!
My experience is keep it simple. What kind of work does he do? that matters. When we got married my husband was still doing physical labor. I got him a platinum and 18kt gold ring and it got trashed. So he never wore the ring. Now he does less physical work. He wears his ring. He wears a size 16 which they had to special order so do not wait too much longer. The comfort fits are the way to go as well. Good Luck!!!

Well, with the amount of $$ you said you have budgeted for a ring, you should be able to find a LOVELY ring for that amount of $$. Generally, since men don't wear big 'ol honkin' diamonds, their rings are less expensive. You should be able to find a simple 14K gold band for just a few hundred dollars, and you should even be able to find a band with some stones (even diamonds) in it for under $2000. I wouldn't reccommend platinum for a man's band, it's very heavy and could be uncomfortable, and while it's very durable, it also scratches easier than gold. Take him with you shopping, and see what he likes. My husband's not a big jewelry person, and we just replaced his ring (been married over 18 years), and he picked one out he liked.

By all means, ask him what he likes, and if he doesn't know go shopping together. I always think there is something romantically timeless about a plain gold band, but do look into platinum if he works hard with his hands as it is the most durable. Don't forget, some men hate any kind of jewelry and you would be crushed if you spent a lot of money on something you had to badger him to wear.

I got my man a white gold wedding band with two square cut diamonds gong vertically when lookin down at it. I got it from Kay Jewelers fro $1500. It is awesome. I would also go and bring your ring and see what compliments it, if yours is pretty bling, then you want his to have at least two diamonds on it. If yours is simple, and standard band would do...
6 foot 7? Go with the diamond band

Just like when the groom buys for the bride, you should take in the grooms likes & preferences. You should take him shopping. See what he likes. Yes, price does matter. Don't get something you can't afford. Go shopping together. Maybe buy rings for B & G that compliment each other

Well rings I like most are small with a simple, but elegant design. Diamonds are okay if they are not in abundance. I think a lot of men have same preferences
