I still have feelings for her, is it fair to her to call or would dredging up those old memories just be cruel?

Well, can't hurt to call. You don't have anything to lose by calling. If she's not interested, you're no further behind than you are if you don't call.
My brother-in-law called my sis after about that long - they lived in different parts of the country, split up when they were early 20's, neither one wanted to move. They were around 30 when he called. Long story short - the next year they got married, and have been married for well over 20 years now - have 2 kids in college.

Its okay to still have feelings for your ex-girlfriend and its also ok to call her if you want too but it also may be best to leave it in the past. She may have not gotten over the breakup at the time and you calling her will bring up alot of memories good or bad. On the other hand she may be happy to hear from you.

You know what sweety, if your serious about her, and it didn't end well with you both, what is the harm in trying, cause if you don't you will always wonder. Maybe she has moved on, maybe not. You never know till you try. Show her that you care, and take it one step at a time. Best wishes.
