I think they have the right idea: that human beings are not vile, sinful creatures, but the most adaptable, most amazing, most admirable products of nature; that it's up to humans to work toward the advancement of human knowledge and the ending of human suffering; and that human life is worth cherishing and celebrating. (Among other things.)
I was first introduced to the concept as a young woman, and I'm puzzled as to why it is not more widespread today.

Humanism is positive philosophy which puts trust in humanity, and values our natural resources. If more people were humanists this would be a much better planet.

Humanism is the elevation of humans to the status of where God would otherwise be at. Humans, being a fallible, sinful creation, versus God, a perfect, uncreated being, are not exactly worthy of that honor. Read the Bible.

I think its a part of mainstream religion that shouldn't be considered different, but should be assimilated. If we are crafted in the image of a perfect being, aren't we gifted with divinity and perfection by even the slightest sliver of a God's perfection? I think so. Mankind would do well to treat himself and his fellows with the dignity and respect most people reserve for their God.

Meaning what?
As far as I can tell, it's a word used by Christians to organize their strawman arguments about atheists (that is, to put odd words in our mouths, like the bizarre and of course false claim that we make ourselves our own gods).
It seems to me that the word "humanism" is like the word "soul" - it doesn't actually refer to anything, and people just use it to fill in gaps in their bad arguments.

Humanism is man's way of trying to explain things with his own philosophy and intellect. It's as good as it's ever going to get, because it can only go as far as our own opinions, that are constantly revised according to the cuture of the day.
Having come to see the perfect, and unchanging, ways of God...I think His ways are much more wise.

Putting human beings at the center of the universe and at the pinnacle of meaning is sad.
I mean, look at us.
And reasons to exalt us and to believe that we are worth something on our own merit? Um, no, I'm not with humanism on that.
Human beings are only valuable through salvation...and then our only value is how we serve God and help bring others to him.
But God, God means and is everything.
Humans? Nah.
