Yes it's healthy but your fast needs to have a purpose. What is the purpose of your fast? Religious reasons, to reach enlightenment? Cleansing your body of toxins? Weight loss? Each has a different method and must be done correctly.Done incorrectly, a fast is definitely not healthy and can do long term damage. One must identify the purpose then do some research. There are hundreds of books and website resources for fasting. There are also different types of fasts. Juice fasts, water fasts, fruit fasts, day-long fasts ending in a nice healthy meal. There are also specific instructions for how to ease into and off of a fast as not to shock your body or do long term damage.
I've done a leek soup fast to kick start my diet. I've also done it during times of stress and to cleanse my bowels (gross sorry). Whether people want to admit it or not everyone's body is full of cr*p and toxins and negativity. Gotta clean house once in awhile.

Not healthy.
* Not eating makes your body think it's starving.

* So, the person's metabolism slows down. The person feels weak or tired all the time.

* That person also might lose their hair and have brittle nails because their body isn't getting the nutrients to make healthy hair & nails.

* As soon as that person starts eating again, the food becomes stored as fat at a quicker pace. Since the metabolism has slowed down, the person is burning calories at a slower rate but eating a lot more than the body's burning. Therefore, the extra calories are stored as fat.

fasting isn't so healthy. you could crash your metabolism. Your metabolism is the one that burns down the food in your stomach. The faster it is, the faster you digest food which makes you more thin. If it goes slow, then you will have a harder time to lose weight. If you CRASH it which is caused by FASTING, you will gain weight that you can't lose and you have to keep exercising daily. Just eat right and exercise. Don't do those things unless you HAVE to fast for your religion or something...

I know fasting as a religious type of thing...you know for prayer!.....i think fasting is ok as long as you dont over do it...skip a meal and instead of eating you pray!!..btw you dont only fast for food....the point of fasting is to stop doing something that u may be addicted to..for God, and use the time for prayer

Not:
1. body goes into survival mode and stores majority of food (fat)
2. you will put the weight back on as fast (or faster) than you lost it. you cant not eat for the rest of your life. if thats how you lose weight, when you start eating again, prepare to put it back on.

of course, if you are fasting for religon or political purposes, then its a different story.

I used to be anorexic. I think fasting makes you feel better, but right now, I'm in the process of "recovery." Although i don't like this suggestion, it's my personal thought on what I enjoy doing for myself.

fasting has its advantages and disadvantages. if it is the night before a huge surgery it is important to fast. it would be both healthier and better for ur body. it is also not healthy because ur body needs nutrients and fat, etc to survive
