The best offraod SUV is a Jeep Rubicon. With air locking diffs and all the skid plates and technology, it is the best bar none!

A Jeep Wrangler is not an SUV, so I will not go there.

A Nissan Xterra is an SUV. The 4x4 system on it is sound. With some modifications, it can be a solid offroader in moderate situations. Some mods would be removing the factory side steps and replacing them with steel skid bars, full skid protection front to back, 2-4 inches of lift, and larger tires. There is nice aftermarket developing for the Xterra to manage these, and there are many Xterra 4x4 groups out there that you could hang with.

Just don't go to a Jeep trail ride...you'll want to go home and sell your Xterra.

could desire to show out that no SUV is meant to ever bypass everywhere close to the tip of the line, much less offroad. they are meant for older females and gentelmen who've dificulty to get out and in of regular autos doe to them sitting so low. it rather relies upon on the place you draw the line. Land Rover Discovery and Toyota Land Cruiser are the two used like SUVs yet they are offroad autos, no longer SUVs. however the type Rover is defined as SUV, whilst synthetic by utilising Land Rover, a producer that makes especially offroad autos. How bout Pajero? it extremely is an off street motor vehicle as nicely, yet i could on no account evaluate it SUV. activities utility motor vehicle. on no account understood the place the sport got here into photograph. No huge extreme motor vehicle is sporty, no longer even the type Rover pastime, or BMW X series. Why no longer in elementary terms get actual offroad motor vehicle? With 3 locking differentials and AWD.

ok everybody, lets try and be unbiased. First up lets say you meant to ask - 'whats the best 4wd with a transfercase?". ok, i've owned a few and driven a few and , well, here they are (not in any order)
Toyota landcruiser '40 series (the original 40 series) (getting old and was deleted in 1984)
Toyota landcruiser 60 series (old and also deleted in 1984)
Toyota landcruiser 80 series (old and deleted sometime in the late '90s)
That new 40 cruiser thing (based on the original 40 series)
Jeep Wrangler (all models)
Landrover defender (oil leaks from new - its a british car thing)
Landrover discovery (oil leaks) and a bit 'soft'.
if your looking for a ute (tray back) a 78 series landcruiser turbo oil burner is probably the best you can get.
yes unimogs are teriffic, but really whose going to wake up one morning with a burning desire to rush out and buy one.................unless your a tour operator
um, the above listed are probably the best of the best straight from the dealer, and also have huge modification potential and parts available. They are all different in size to each other, so work out how big a truck you want and pick the corresponding size. there is also a landcruiser 100 series, but toyota turned that into a bit of a soccoer moms car, so it doesnt belong here.
Oh, and each of these cars drink like a sailor.
I guess it depends on what youre going to do with it. for sand, nothing can beat a short wheel base with big tires and a big engine.
for long range touring, something like a newish landcruiser wagon would be the go. they can carry 170 liters in their fuel tank alone. then theres the extra space for stuff. theyre also as good as a long wheel base can get off road.
hope this helps

Brand new?
first to come to mind:
1. Jeep Grand Cheroke.
2. Nissan Patrol.
3. Land Rover Defender.
4. Nissan XTerra.

You got to remeber that are limitations to SUV as minimum wheelbase and inside space.
That leaves out all the wranglers.

Jeeps are great. But it is nice to think outside of the box. For the guy who thinks that Jeeps are not SUV's, think again. Jeeps were the original SUV. Even Land Rovers copied the Jeep design after WWII.
Glad to see someone mentioned the Land Rover Defender. But don't forget the Land Rover Series, Unimog, and Pinzgauer. I like how someone else mentioned custom built trucks. It's great buying American, but there is some great things going around the world.
