Very good point.....I don't think that it would be present today, because the idea was snatched up right away that he was the sacrificial lamb and that is what created the new religion.....Christianity.
Humans are always trying to put something on an alter and mutilate it....What is with that?

Jesus did not teach that the death penalty was OK. He forgave the woman at the well that normally would have been put to death by stoning. He said. "let him without sin throw the first stone." What was that teaching about? It was about forgiveness no matter what, if you are willing to go forward and sin no more. Far removed from our system of justice that all depends on money and the color of ones skin. It also helps if you know someone in power.
Christianity was not spawned as a religion when Christ was killed by overzealous people. It was an event in History orchestrated by God Himself to make a way back to Himself for His children. It isn't about religion at all it is about reality and the progression of humanity. The confusion comes because Jesus lived under the Jewish Law and that was not a religion either. It was a lifestyle and living in Christ is a lifestyle with access to the God of this Universe and material creation.

Christianity would still exist, yes. It would look nothing like the Christianity of today. Those of the Judaic faith that believed that the Messiah Jesus was the messiah they had been trained to look for would have realized that this man who never received the 'death penalty' was not the Messiah and would have waited for the real one to come along. There are Jews who recognize that the Christian Jesus is the real Messiah that orthodox people are still searching for. Christinity is the hope of a messiah. There would still be hope.

The death penalty is the wages of sin. Acceptance of Jesus as your savior is your way to escape death though repentance of our sins. With out Christ providing a way out by His dying on the cross for our sins, there would always be death as the penalty for our sins. But instead Jsus paid that price with His life instead of ours.Jesus took our place so we can have eternal life in heaven.

I'm in support of the death penalty as I think that crimes like rape and murder deserve death. You're right, if Christ hadn't died we wouldn't be saved, but it doesn't seem to be necessary that he die by execution, only that He live a sinless life and die. I think part of it is to point out how hard our hearts had become toward God that we executed His Son.

There is no "what if". The death of Jesus on the cross was all part of God's plan and no one was able to change it. Even Jesus knew of this plan and was willing to abide by it. And if you're familiar with the Bible, you also know that He wasn't sentenced to death. He rose to join His Father in heaven.

Christianity has existed sense ever...the reason Jesus had to be crucified was bc there was too much sin in the world so the lamb sacrifice wasnt enough anymore.....b4 Jesus was sacrificed the way to pay for your sins was by sacrificing the best lamb you had....well Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice!...which means after he was crucified you dont need to make more animal sacrifices!!....through Jesus blood we are purified..of course that is if you accept him as your number one and only saviour!!!!..hes the only way to heaven
