ok the blanket only works for birds. your dog is lonely try placing a mirror in your dogs cage it does seem to help them think they are not alone.

i just went through this myself with my puppy, even though it's hard to let them keep barking, you have to do it. if you take her out while she is barking, it just trains them that if they bark, they get out of the cage. keeping a pup in a crate is definately not cruel. a lot of dogs enjoy crates because of the closeness. it's like a den to them and is a safe place to keep them when you are out of the house or asleep. what you can do to make the place more enjoyable is put some toys in the cage and a nice blanket. make it a place that is fun for her and that she wants to go. also, make sure the crate is only large enough to have her lie down, first instinct would be to get a nice big cage for her, but she will end up doing her buisness on one end, and sleeping on another which is a no no. hope this helps and that you enjoy your puppy!!

First what your doing is not Cruel its called crate training and is a great way to train a dog.

Keep using the blanket. Put a radio by the cage on low. My puppy preferred rap music! Can also try a hot water bottle.

Sometimes this helps. If you don't want the dog to sleep in the bed with you then you just have to ignore the cries. I know it is so heart breaking.

One: DON'T use the crate as punishment. EVER. Bad idea.
Two: Make sure all her physical needs are met. Is she hungry/thirsty/needs to go potty? Is she sleeping in the room with you? Puppies that young are generally too young to sleep by themselves, and may whine is forced to.
Three: If all else fails, ignore her. If you can tell she's just whining beause she's bored, ignore her. Puppies as well as humans must learn, at some point, to entertain themselves, and must learn that nighttime is nighttime. You wouldn't let a 3 year old wake you up every morning at 5 am, would you? No, that would be bad parenting to teach them that was okay. Same with your dog. She'll learn quickly. As long as she's getting plenty of mommy time during the day, this is not a punishment. She'll just learn that whining doesn't work. It's the same method I use with the 2 year olds I work with. If they whine, I just ignore them. I say, "Until you can talk to me, I don't know what you want" (even if it's obvious). They very quickly learn to communicate. Your dog needs to learn what nighttime means.

Good luck!

put a few toys in there, put a blue kong (those are the puppy kongs) filled with treats in there, put something in there for her lay on, and also put an old shirt or something that smells like you in there. Make sure she goes to the bathroom before you put her in there to go to sleep at night.

Also, do not pay any attention to her while she makes noise. Do not look at her, talk to her...anything. I know this sounds cruel, but any attention you give her while she's barking tells her that it's okay for her to bark because then you'll give her attention. It will take some time for her to quiet down, but she will quiet down.

My two dogs get crated together. I put their crate next to my bed. Now that they are housetrained, I don't use it for night time...only when I leave the house. When I DID use it for night time, it comforted them knowing they were right next to me.

Good luck!

Take It Out the Cage And Let It Sleep With You Easy

She is just trying to tell you she misses you and wants out of the cage. Why would you need to keep her in a cage when she obviously does not like it. It's like putting a baby in a play pen when it is time for bed and not expecting her to cry so a alone and scared.

Try taking her out of the cage. Is a must that you keep her in it? or what is your reason for the cage? She's only 12 weeks and she's probably missing her mmmy as it is. She needs more of your closeness, not a cage .

i breed golden retrievers and when they do that usually it means that they have to go potty or they want some one to be with. goldens are very social dogs and they need that human companionship all the time. but when she barks at night try to put her out to potty. you need to remember that she was taken from her other siblings that kept her company and that she played with all the time. only put her in the crate if you are using it tp potty train her and at night when you go to bed. try putting the crate in your room next to your bed as long as she sees you she might be more quiet knowing that you are in the same room with her.

most likely, she isnt used to it yet, or does not like to be confined...maybe a bigger cage, or try putting her cage in your room at night..if she still barks when shes with you, then thats not the best idea in the world..ha
