I was in an Assembly of God for many years and it was common for a tongue message to be given and then someone would stand up and interpret what was said. I believe this because it's in the bible and I don't believe there are any scriptures saying it stopped etc.
Here's my question: The message or interpretation was always in "King James Version Style" & the messages were always fague to say the least. Like oh my children I love ye etc...and our youth pastor was molesting little boy's down stairs below our very feet at the same time...he did this for 15 years and never once was a message that said: Pastor Dave is doing bad things RIGHT NOW to little boy's not more than 30 feet away...yet the messages were just fluff..WHY?
BTW..the pastor was caught and got 30 years

I was raised Assembly of God also. I hate what happened in your church, but i don't think it has anything to do with speaking in tongues. I pray in tongues and speak in Tongues (at home). Have never in a church setting. My mother used to interpret alot and my mother is not the kind of person that would just make something up to say- i really believe in it-but thats me.

My opinion is that the tongues and interpretation of tongues spoken of in the Bible is true. It did happen. However, my opinion is that it was not some unknown tongue, but the language of some other country. For example, Greeks were known to visit the Holy Land and yet few if any Hebrews could speak Greek. So during one (maybe more) of the Greek visits, the gift of tongues was given, and the interpretation of tongues was received from certain Disciples to certain Greeks. The Greeks understood what was being said and were converted.
However, Satan and his followers deceive many by posing as angels of light when in reality they are angels of darkness. Satan does many things that without the Holy Spirit to help; it may look like the truth when it really isn't. Satan's whole plan is to do what ever it takes, even giving some truth then twisting it, in order to lure souls AWAY from Christ.
It is my opinion that this is what happens in the majority of the churches who claim to have the gift of tongues and interpretation of tongues.
My opinion is that the gift of tongues comes to those who need to be able to speak a different, but known, language to communicate with people the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The interpretation of tongues is given in like manner, to those who speak a different language other than the one that the message is being given, and they are able to understand what is being said in a spiritual sense, if not in a literal sense. Unless there is someone in the world who actually speaks and understands King James English as their first/primary language, I doubt the interpretation of tongues would be given in that style of English. It's entirely possible that Satan was using the situation of presenting a false message in tongues and the interpretation thereof to make sure the youth pastor and his victim were not discovered. Satan will do whatever he can to drag us down into that gulf of misery and woe. Then when it suits him, drop those that follow him quicker than the blink of an eye.
I'm not saying that those who spoke in tongues or interpreted the message are not generally good people; just that it is easy to be deceived. The devil is subtle and uses the means necessary that will work the best to lure away the hearts of men, even when they don't know it.
This is what I believe and I hope it helps you. Just remember there are many subtleties that the devil and his angels have had millinia to perfect, and we are here but for a little while. We will all be inticed by the working of the devil, but we must be ever vigilent and aware and lean on the arm of God.

Please re read the entire messages in the bible on tongues.

It states point blank that when the apostles spoke in toungues that all around (no matter where they came from and what language they spoke) could understand the apostles when they spoke.

There were people there from other lands who spoke other languages(tongues) and they understood the apostles in their own native tongue (language).

Therefore I do believe tongues (speaking in) does exist, but only in the rehlm of languages. Meaning if I come from Mexico and speak only Spanish, I could be standing next to someone from France who spoke only French, our speaker could be speaking in English, but we would all hear him and understand him in our own native tongue.

I know this is a very debatable topic, but either way the bible also states that the speaking of tongues is a MINOR gift from God, not a major one that should be placed above the other gifts which are much more service oriented and require you to get your feet moving and your hands dirty (so to speak).

As for the molestation of children and all the other weaknessess of the flesh, evil is here and we must deal with it. Where better to find trusting soals to commit evil upon, then inside the very place that they trust the most for all of us to be trustworthy.

Trust no man, only God is truely trustworthy. Men are flesh and bones while on this earth and subject to the same weaknessess we all have.

Tough question.
Personally, I believe the passages referring to "tongues" mean "languages." How can you interpret a "tongue" if it is not its own language? The early church was given the power to speak other languages to spead the gospel throughout the world quickly.

I don't really believe in tongues like y'all do... God gives everyone their gift as he wants, not how we want. Plus, our personal gift always has a purpose not just for the heck of it, and it doesn't have to be extraordinary. They might've just been too emotional and been through a psycological process where they really believed they were speaking in tongues.

what is the point of your question...just sounds like gossip to me....why would you want to shame a whole section of your own religion to spread un needed gossip like this.....there are bad in everything.....it is sad but it happens but to say something like that is unfair.....I speak in tongues and have for years and it has nothing to do with what they [man] did....you should really watch out with what you say against the Holy Spirit......
