the Bible is made up of 60 different books, written by at least 40 different people over a period of at least a couple thousand years. Some books were written without knowledge of other books that would be included- yet it all flows together in agreement with a beauty that even nonbelieving literature buffs cannot deny. I know there is a lot of speculation over the Bible contradicting itself and unfortunately a lot of Christians cannot answer that with a certainty- the fact is there are no contradictions- If you study the Bible from the context of which it was written, historically, who was the writer, who was the audience, what was the culture and what was going on at the time. Understanding Hebrew words, idioms and traditions sheds a much brighter light on the Gospel because that was the mindset it was written in.
The above facts about the Bible help me to understand its authenticity a little better but when it comes down to it, it is faith- faith does not get me to slide by in life- I have to use wisdom and discernment, be mature and willing to listen , receive correction and take accountability for my actions, I have to know what I put my faith in and why. When I read the words, and pray and ask for guidance, I know a peace in my spirit and I see changes in my self that affect changes in my circumstances and ultimately, if I am wrong, which I know I am not, I have nothing to lose.
I think it is good that you are asking these questions, I just pray that you are willing to be still and really listen to the answers, many on this forum ask only with the intent to disprove, mock, and ridicule.
There are many Christians who have been walking with the Lord a long time and have knowledge and understanding but should still be very discerning when opening their mouths to speak, myself included and there are some who are new in their walk and should be slower to speak but often in the excitement and newness of their faith often begin to answer things they don't fully understand and wind not only putting themselves on the receiving end of mockery and ridicule but the Christian faith in general. All humans tend to do that in some space or another so patience and understanding are always appreciated.

First off Faith isn't a cop out..it's real to many ppl..that being said...Yes Man is a sinner, but God can speak through man...The bible talks about being a witness and such. If men weren't capable of spreading the Gospel God would set rules up against it.If you are asking a biblical question, your going to get a bible based answer, simple as that. Besides we can't win when it comes to this subject...no answer is good enough.
You believe it through Faith (yeah I know I suck at life because of it,and I'll never amount to anything because I "cop out with it" but hey lose-lose I suppose).
You can say they were nut stuff just as easily as u can say they were sane. It's still your thoughts on the matter...if you don't think that way..fine....Don't go tell us we are wrong... I'm sure ppl criticize you all the time for your beliefs ,but dont be the ppl you prob. whine about.

Faith isn't a cop out. If you don't have it, then you have no concept of it. It doesn't let believers slide by. People question our faith all the time and we have to have an answer for that. All scripture was God inspired and God breathed. The message of the cross is foolishness to those who don't believe. If your heart is hardened to the truth, then no amount of quoting the Bible will change that. You have to be ready yourself to accept that the Bible is the word of God, I can't force you to. The people that wrote the Bible were perfectly sane. There is a vast difference between them and those who take their kids out to a field and kill them because they think God told them to. The difference is those people are really and truly disturbed, the people that God spoke through to write the Bible were called crazy because people cannot comprehend what God did through them and like to call them crazy as their "cop out."

It's useless to quote the bible to unbelivers, I give you that point.
The Bible is revelation and has to be accepted as such by reason of authority.
Who says the bible is the word of God?
The church.
So I listen to the catholic church rather than Marx, Stalin, Nietsche, or any other autority because to me the Church seems more trust-worthy therefore I belive it's claims too.

Men spoke from God as they were borne along by Holy Spirit.
Are you telling me that the God who made the ear, brain, language and the mouth, not to mention the universe, cannot help faithful prophets write a little book?
Of course there are a few books which claim to be inspired. Only by sincere investigation will God show you which one it is.

First of all, God did speak to man and he still does, just in different ways. In the bible God spoke to man either directly or thru dreams. Today, he speaks to man thru the Bible. The Bible is fact, not fiction. It's the first book and it will be the last.

The Bible is a collection of the teachings of Christ and of His life on earth. I don't believe that Christ was insane. There are many writers of the Bible...are ALL of them insane?

>How can you honestly believe that the people who wrote the >letters of the bible really heard God talk?
Who are you to say they didn't??
>Doesn't God say that man is a sinner and always will be?
He also says we are redeemed through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. That in him, through the Holy Spirit, we can be saved. God sent the Holy Spirit (the Paraclete) into the world to finish the work he started. We are to spend our lives working with the Holy Spirit and our community of believers learning to live in love and faith. Is that such a terrible thing??
To say that the true Christian faith doesn't make sense is either, not to know the whole truth, or not to have it properly explained to you.
Jesus said: Love God with all your heart, all your mind and all your strength, and love your neighbor as you love yourself. By doing this you will have accomplished all the commandments.
By loving people will you not forgive them? Will you not treat them properly? If not, why not? Wouldn't it be a better world if the man with a gun to his head had more people there to tell him not to pull the trigger?
Nobody wants to have community. They want to shut off, and hide in their sheltered houses/minds. Guess what, I could kick in the door, and kill you and your whole family. I'm not going to, but don't believe somebody else wouldn't. For a stupid a reason as they were high on PCP and temporarily insane.
Now what's crazy? Idealism?
Fu..., I'd rather be optimistic than suicidal.
There are a lot of religious nuts out there. There's a lot of people who have confused the truth. Mixed it with lies. They want to take down the faith, they want to take down society, they want to destroy what's allowed people to have life since the earliest of civilizations.
Who's more dangerous: me, a 24 year old catholic male trying his best to live right, or some hippie free-loader (not that I don't love y'all...). See, hippies turn into Yuppies. They are full of sh... Me, I was kinda like a hippie. Yet I never had the ability to become a yuppie. Unlike most of those hippie kids I knew, I didn't come from a rich family. I saw my future, it was sitting on the curb. Giving me advice on life. Drunk off it's ***. I love my homeless brothers and sisters, but to answer the question- I'm more dangerous. Cause the hippie-crite yuppie who claims to want peace and love is really just afraid. They complain about being put in jail. They don't want to hurt anybody, at least not with their hands. They can retreat anytime they want. Now they call me spoiled, cause when I accepted God I begged to live in my fathers house once more. While I worked my way back into normal society. Guess what I was like before God? I didn't give a f.... If there's no God, and the only punishment is if I get caught, then why bother to have a conscience? I might as well rob, loot, steal, and kill. Do what ever it takes by any means necessary to get to the top. Where I can rest comfortably. If you're in my way, f.... you! In how many days could I rob enough people to get enough money to put me in a better position. How many people doing illegal activity could I kill, get away with, and profit off of it? How many evils could I commit because there is no God? If I die, I die. I was going to die anyway, I'd rather be happy and risk dying than live and have to live a life that I hate.
Yet fortunately for me, there is a God. I learned that. I'm letting him restore my conscience over time.
How many people like me do you think there are?
I know what it is to have no conscience. I also know what it is to have no conscience and have it rapidly restored. Frightening I must say. See, having no conscience is worse than having no common sense. If you have no common sense you can claim a sort of innocence. You can be unaware. If you have no conscience, you know right from wrong, and you just don't care. It doesn't affect you. You don't use drugs to mask or rid the pain. You LIKE the pain. THIS is what is goes through a mind infected by devils. It might be called a sociopath by psychology. Some people are supposedly born psychopathic. I think they are born in a household without morals. In a world/neighborhood not too far from hell. There are more people in the world exposed to this than us lucky few typing at our computers. As someone who's been in and out of this type of thinking and these types of places and where it leads you to (jails, death, institutions....even worse NA/AA meetings) I can tell you that it's necessary we have faith and community. Because that's the only thing that holds people together.
As Turbulence(a Rastafari) said on one of his records:(re-worded) I feel like shooting them in the head, but the Lord said no
On a completely different note: A building is held together by a foundation consisting of a corner stone upon which it is held. The cornerstone which takes on gravity, thus holding the entire building up. Remove the corner stone and the building will topple. The entire universe is held up by one cornerstone, God, remove it/him, and the entire universe is held by nothing. To research into mathtematics and science is to go into a world we have barely even begun to understand. This all just came out of nothing?
