I need to connect speaker and TV cable between two rooms and have to use on-wall means. Apart from using cable/wire hooks or corrugated split cable-cover sleeves, is there anything else I could use to keep everything neat and as "invisible" as possible?

use the corners and trim for "hiding" the stuff. It will require more wire than a straight line, but it always looks better.

For a "keeper" use short pieces of straws that have been split down the lenghth, clear is almost "invisible".
Staple the straw to the wall and put the wiring between the split.

If you have carpet you can carefully pull up the edge in short sections and tuck it underneath.

If you have baseboard you can pull it, cut a notch along the bottom edge of the wall to recess the wire in, then replace the baseboard. This take a little more skill and hope you don't ruin any of the baseboard when removing.
