Little bit of oil, cook until desired amount, I prefer well done.
Within the last minute of cooking put on propreca, with a touch of seasoning salt.
Sounds weird but tastes great.

I agree, purchase a grill pan. I just bought one for $50 at Target and cook steaks at least once a week on it. You can add whatever spice to your meat, I use pepper, salt, paprika, worcestershire, and sometimes a little honey to give it that sweet and hot combo. I'll usually let that sit all day, best for 24 hours but at least a few hours. Now here's a little trick, usually when I heat up my pan I put the steak on a plate in the middle of the stove. while your grill pan is heating up it also heats up the surface of your stove. The steak will begin to warm, if you put an ice cold steak on a super hot pan, the meat tences up causing the steak to be tough. Good eats!

Here's what you need to do. Invest in a grill pan. It's like a skillet but it has raised ridges running across the bottom of the pan. Your steak then sits up on the ridges instead of in the bottom of the pan. It's the closest you can get to grilling on your stovetop. You can find them at any mass merchandiser, e.g. Target. Probably find one for around $10 - $15. I would advise you to buy the best you can afford and look at it as a lifetime investment. I use mine a lot in the winter when it's too cold to grill outside.
Now that you have your grill pan. Cut a clove of garlic in half and rub it on your steak (always do both sides). Drizzle olive oil over steak, rub it in. Season with kosher salt and ground black pepper. Let sit 15 minutes or so while you heat your grill pan. When pan is hot, grill away my friend.
Good luck and good eating.

Just make sure that the pan is hot enough (hand over the heated pan for max 2-3 secs) before you put the meat in the pan. A 2-inch thick steak will need approx. 3-4 minutes/side to get it "medium"
I like a steak "as is". Maybe an interesting sauce to accompany the steak. OR, fry up a sliced onion in butter in another pan, add a little sugar to carmelize the onions and put them on the steak after it's finished. Tremendous.

There are several ways to cook a steak other that grilling, I will just give you one though. Start by heating a fry pan with a little bit of butter or margarine. Season the steak with kosher salt, coarse ground black pepper and garlic powder. Once the pan is fairly hot put the steak in, let it get nice and brown before you flip it. Let it brown nicely on both sides. Remove the steak when it is cooked to your desired temp. add some chopped garlic and diced onions, caramelize the onions and deglaze with 1/2 cup dry red wine and reduce by half then add 1 tsp dijon mustard and 1 cup beef broth bring it to a boil. Take 2 tablespoons of butter and roll it in flour, turn off the heat and stir in the butter and flour.

Season with pepper and when pan is hot, grease it lightly and put steak in. Don't turn for at least 3 minutes. Tuen only then , and let sit for another 3 minutes. Turn fire to med and cook till desired doneness is achieved. Salt it after it's cooked not before or the blood will be lost during cooking and make the steak hard.

I usually black pepper the steak. Heat the pan, I use olive oil but you can use any cooking oil or even lard. Heat it until it is very hot. Put in the steak and let it sizzle for about 20 seconds. Turn it over and do the same. Depending on how you like - very rare - 30 seconds each side. Rare. 1 minute each side. Well done: I usually having done the initial both sides, turn the heat down to a minimum and let it cook away for about ten minutes, turn it over and do the same. With chips (french fries), onion rings and maybe peas......................... my mouth is watering............

Broil it .. that is the best.. never on the stove.. and what is with using butter??? that is just so not how to cook steak!!! I know they don't cook it like that in a resturant...lol i worked in one for many years and my husband was the GM and that is so out there.... what ever ya do don't over cook it. It is better under cooked( you can through it back on the broil) then OVER cook it.. ( you then need to toss it out YUCK (( leather)) But if you really really have too use olive oil :)
good luck

Pretty simple. Bring pan to medium heat. Add butter. Make sure you salt and pepper your meat before adding it to the pan. If it is about a half inch thick it will take about 8 minutes per side to medium well done, about 5 to medium.
I prefer starting with a wonderful cut of meat and not adding any seasoning besides salt and pepper until the table.
Do not keep flipping your meat over, let it cook on one side in one place in the pan and then the other. Moving it or flipping it a bunch will make it lose moisture and be tough.
