What are some items that I may need to pack for my vacation to New York City in winter? Besides the usual, coat and good walking shoes. I'm also going to carry a small backpack while I tour the city. What would you suggest that I take with me?

It was very cold last year when I was there. About minus 5. And the wind cuts right through you. My teeth hurt when I went on the staten island ferry. Make sure you have a warm hat and scarf to wrap around your whole face. Get a windproof jacket if possible.

Not shoes, boots for walking that are warm. It is very windy and cold in the winter. Bring a good hat and a scarf you can wrap around your face and gloves for your hands. Have room for them in your backpack for when you go inside. YOu will freeze waiting to get a taxi or walking to subway.

i live in new york city, and its really no different from any other northeastern city in winter, make sure to bring your camera to take pics of the great nyc sights and bring plenty of money, preferably in travelors checks

when you get there, make sure to stop by the tourism centers and collect maps and brochures detailing many attractions to visit in the city

A lot of folks visiting NYC don't bring a lot of clothes because they shop. I hear of visitors bringing empty suitcases so they can fill them up with their new wardrobe.
