There is a building called 'The Priory' in Priory Road which has just been coverted into dwellings. If you contact the Listed Buildings Officer at Teignbridge District Council, they might be able to give some details as the building is listed.

It could have be connected to St Greogory's Church (C of E), maybe St Nicolas' in Exeter, or St Scholastica's (Benedictine) which was in Teignmouth.

The town museum web-sit has an excellent history section - I've only skimmed it but it's really interesting. You could always give the curator a ring.

I don't know about nuns but I've managed to find the following for you:

St. Nicholas Priory
Dating back to 1087 are the Priory ruins, originally a monastery for Benedictine Monks

There were Benedictine Nuns at St. Scholastica's Abbey in Devon until about 10 or 20 yrs ago
