See the article below.
To sum up the article, here are just a few medical conditions in which drinking green tea is reputed to be helpful:
cancer
rheumatoid arthritis
high cholesterol levels
cariovascular disease
infection
impaired immune function
And most notably, in November 1999 the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published the results of a study at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. Researchers found that men who were given a combination of caffeine and green tea extract burned more calories than those given only caffeine or a placebo. You can see the abstract of the original article at http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/abstract/70/6/1040?maxtoshow=&HITS=10&hits=10&RESULTFORMAT=&fulltext=green+tea&andorexactfulltext=and&searchid=1&FIRSTINDEX=0&resourcetype=HWCIT and also see the various other articles and journals that cite the study.

It helps cleanse your system, and it has some vitamins and minerals in it. It's more of a healthy drink than something that will make you lose weight, though. I'm sure if you replace soda and pops with Tea, you will be much better off anyway.
