because the US administration has taken a "you're with us or against us" stance that interprets any form of disagreement with the US as support of terrorism.
There is plenty of room for a whole spectrum of opinions about world politics, but this administration has narrowed it to the point of strangulation.
Incidentally, I orderd French fries at a local restaurant and the owner corrected me, saying they were freedom fries. Then he asked me to vote for him as our local representative. I told him I wouldn't vote for anyone who blamed another country for having an opinion.

I have lived in the United States for almost ten years and I have realised that Americans and French just don't like each other. Of course this really came to a head when the United States was trying to gather support for the Iraqi Invasion and the French and many other countries would not go along with it. For some reason the French got the ire of the Americans and all of a sudden French Fries were Freedom fries. I find this hatred odd because without the French the United States would have never been able to defeat the Brits in the Revolutionary War.

It has a lot to do with Hollywood's version of WW2. The French really have no great debt to the US. It was the USSR that turned the tables on Hitler.
Up until Aug/41, in a poll 80% of Americans wanted nothing to do with the war in Europe. FDR became concerned, because he was afraid the UK would fall, either to the Communists or nazies. This would compromise Canada & the rest of the Commonwealth. Here comes the shocker, FDR with the assistance of Lt.Comm. A.H.McCollum set in motion an 8 step plan to provoke Japan into attacking the US at Pearl Harbour. The stratagy worked and the US declared war on Germany. Working with the allies the US joined in the liberation of Europe. It's strange because the French, in general, hate the English. As for me, I speak both English& French....I'm Canadian so I have to love everyone...Yeah right!!!!!!
If you can get a copy of "The Myth of the Good War", it's by a Flemish writer and is a real eyeopener as to the so called loyal corporate world. Henry Ford, who consider Hitler a great man did not want the US involved because his company was making a fortune, suppling both sides. as was GM.
IBM's, German branch set up a punch card location system so that the nazies could more easily keep track of their slave workers.

America has established itself as the best in the world. Most everybody has succumbed. The French refused to believe this. They've never said America is number 2, but simply that they are number 1. Which is acceptable.
I guess Americans don't like that fact that the French have not adopted their ways like some countries. America has a tendency to criticize anything that is not theirs even at a foreign country.

I don't think that we necessarily hate the French, we just disagree with them on many important matters, such as bathing, and hairy armpits on women. By the way, speedos on old stinky balding French dudes with croissant stuck in their ratty beards is not attractive. Having been to France, I can say that the average French citizen is incredibly rude to any American they meet.
As far as the Statue of Liberty goes, maybe we should just send it back, remove the torch, and mold a middle finger. Oh by the way, here's your bill for all the freaking restoration over the years on the piece of crap.
We no longer owe you people a debt for the American Revolution. We repaid that debt tenfold. Try not to step on the American bones littering the beaches of Normandy.

In light of France's position on certain international affairs there is a perception by many Americans that the French (or at least those in the French govenment) have forgotten the sacrifice made by Americans on their behalf in WWI and WWII.
I don't think that the typical American expects France to agree with all U.S. foreign policy, but the anti-American rhetoric of late does not sit well when so many American soldiers are buried on French soil.

The French try to undermine everything that the U.S. does. It was a UN resolution that allowed the US to invade Iraq. The French are part of the UN but they cowered down rather that standing up to Saddam. After we got there we found that they had been selling weapons to Iraq illegally (so were the Russians). Any time that you have to put up or shut up, they surrender. Then they blame us for trying to change things and they think we should be more like them. We have to much of a rebellious nature to convert to their socialist programs.

I think some ignorant Americans started the attitude when France would join us in Iraq.
Most Americans don't hate the French, and actually admire French culture. A trip to Paris is seen as terribly romantic. French wines and cuisine is viewed as top class. The French accent is considered cosmopolitan.

Not TV ,or a F##king TV station...LIBYIA..!! When we [the USA] chose to bomb Mohmar Qaddafi after flagrant U N violations. The french wouldn't let us fly their airspace..our pilots flew the horn of Europe for nearly 24 hours. Obviously can't speak for all Americans..but that is why I detest the French. In all manner shape and form..I'd punch a frog just for that alone..Angry American.

France CLAIMS!!!!!!!!! to be an Ally. Then during the Iraq war the went against us. Not for MORAL reasons. Or simply because they didn't think it was right. NO. They did it because SADDAM was PAYING them off. Thousands of US soldiers died liberating France from the Germans and yet those @ssholes sell us out for a DICKtator. If France prefers Allies Like SADDAM over the US More power to them. MAY they ROT with the Terriost in Hell.
