I think they are incredibly romantic, cheaper and fun, especially when family and friends come too.

For our family, everyone is coming as their summer vacation. If we had a wedding hear it would cost us like over $20,000. There it is costing $11,000 and that includes the honeymoon. So you are wrong on the expense.

Personally, I think they're awesome!!! My sister got married at Hilton Head Island, so our whole family was able to turn it into a mini-vacation, which was so much fun. One of our good friends invited our family to their daughter's wedding at Disney World, which was a blast as well. Expect that you won't have the numbers that you would have if you held it in your hometown, and plan a few more activities for the whole gang that will be traveling for the wedding, but all in all, the ones I've been to have been very enjoyable, alot of fun, and well worth the money and expense I went to attend them!

I also want to add after reading some of the other responses that in many cases, family and close friends are going to have to travel for a wedding anyway, so it kinda makes sense to have it so that all can have fun as well. My brother is getting married in March, in the town where he lives, and yes, we live out of state, so we'll have to travel for that anyway. I'd much rather go to a beach in March than Salt Lake City. But I'm going to Salt Lake, since that's where the wedding will be.

Not sure where the destination wedding is cheaper. They are usually cheaper for the bride and groom because they are just paying for themselves and usually combine it with their honeymoon, but for the guests destination weddings are expensive-think airfare, hotel, lost vacation days, etc.

Its kinda rude I think to ask guests to travel a lot for your wedding if nobody's family is there. I know of one wedding where the bride and groom were from NJ and they decided to get married in Florida-they were upset that only 10 of their friends wanted to come because the others didn't have money to or couldn't take time off.

well they are romantic and fun but cheaper? airline and hotel? anyway i like the idea of a destination wedding if its a very small wedding (like a couple friends and close family members and thats it) some people really do not want to spend that much money to go to a destination wedding and if they dont go they may feel guilty. so as long as the couple doesnt put pressure on anybody to attend (unless they are willing to help out with expenses) i think it a cool idea.

I think it's nice, but it also puts a burden on friends and family. It's much easier to have them fly across country than overseas. While it's nice to think that an island wedding would be so romantic and lovely, it's rude to make guests pay for the flights, hotels, AND gifts on top of that.

I would rather something US and personal, local since that is easier for our family and friends. We aren't putting on a wedding to prove to them that we can plan a wedding. We are having a wedding to celebrate our marriage, and it doesn't require a $3000 plane ticket to do so.

I arranged a friend's wedding and honeymoon. The wedding and reception was held on the cruise ship. After, the wedding couple stayed on for the cruise and everyone else stayed home. It was a great success.

It isn't at ALL cheap for your family and friends to take the time to travel at your whim.

I agree! My fiance and I are considering a destination wedding ourselves. We like the idea of only having our closest family and friends with us... as we figure those are the only people who will end up making the effort to join us (if it's out of the way). Seems more intimate and special.

I'm a travel agent...destination weddings are getting to be so popular. I agree that they are very romantic, cheaper for the bride and groom, fun and you can have your wedding/honeymoon all at once!

I think they can be romantic but very very very Expensive. Because you have to figure in paying for all of you're wedding
guest and most of you're family.Because most people don't
have the money to fly any where and it cost to much to drive
because of most gas prices.so that's why I'm planing on having
my wedding in a chapel up in the mountains. so it wont cost as
much and so i can spend more on my honeymoon and reception.
like someone said you're kidding yourself if you think its cheaper to have a destination wedding.cause its not cheaper.

no way go for it I personally think destination weddings are wonderful and guess what it's OK those who can will go and guess what you really don't have to extend the invitation to people you haven't seen over a year...

I'm not sure where you think its cheaper for your friends and family to all arrange time away from school, jobs and other responsibilities but if its how you want to start your marriage then its your choice. Do what's right for you and your husband to be, but don't kid yourself about the expense.
