Dry dog food is great for their teeth. I would also suggest getting a toothbrush and doggie toothpaste and brushing them.

The best thing I have found is a product called ProDen Plaque off. You add it to their food. I have two small dogs and keeping their teeth clean can be a battle, and I don't want them to be put under very often for a dental. When I first started using the product my male had black tartar on a couple of his back teeth right at the gum line and brushing didn't take it off and he had bad breath. A couple weeks after I started using it I noticed his breath was better and about a month the black tartar was disappearing and before long the gum line was beautiful no sign of plague. Brushing along with the Plaque Off helps it work faster. Its a natural product nothing to do any harm. Alot of vet offices are starting to sell it. It was developed in Sweden. A small bottle of it lasted me six months for two dogs at $19.99 a bottle The website is http://www.international-dental.com

But if your dogs teeth are really bad you do need to have a dental because the gum disease can lead to severe heart problems

First of all the dog needs her teeth cleaned. Bones, etc do not remove the tartar. It may help prevent it, like brushing on a regular basis. Cleaning the teeth also prevents major health problems, like heart problems. Call the vet for an appointment.

If it is bad, then you first need to have the teeth cleaned by a vet. See if the vet uses something called OraVet to apply and then you apply it once a week, it really helps keep dogs teeth clean. Or after they are cleaned you can brush them. I don't brush my dogs teeth but I work for a vet and can afford to have them cleaned every year. Good luck.

I can't email you back, you haven't confirmed something. I live in Oklahoma, it costs $85 for the dental, $45 for the blood work and $50 for the OraVet. The blood work is worth it. It can give you a base line or even show if there is infection, kidney or liver problems. Many vets do a discounted one in February because it is pet dental health month. But sounds like you can't wait that long.

I brush my dog's teeth. Get a cheapo toothbrush and special dog toothpaste (I just get it at the grocery store in the pet aisle), I don't do it all the time, only when it is really bad, or I have the time. He loves it because he always gets a treat afterwards.

Your dog needs chew toys and bones. The best thing is to get them hooked on dry food only. This will get the gunk off. And doggy biscuits too
