"The debate over illegal immigration heated up Sunday in the small New Jersey town of Riverside, with close to a thousand people taking to the streets.

The occasion was a protest against a township ordinance adopted last month that bans the hiring and housing of people who can't offer verification that they are in the U.S. legally.

Hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the Riverside Township Municipal Building during the afternoon, while several hundred massed across the street as part of a counter protest."

"Both the Riverside and Hazleton ordinances have been challenged in federal court. The challenge to the Riverside ordinance contends that the town is assuming powers that more rightfully rest with the federal government.

Residents of Riverside and township officials say the ordinance targets illegality, not immigrants. Gary Christopher, chairman of the local planning board, said there is nothing wrong with "making it uncomfortable to be illegal."

There is nothing wrong with making it uncomfortable to be illegal. If we'd done this in the first place these people wouldn't be wigging because we took away their 'rights'. I do think all peoples have the capacity to be intelligent, but illegals stubbornly refuse to see the difference between a privilege and a right. They lost a lot of people's compassion when they marched for their privileges to be changed into rights instead of appreciating what they had.

Well of course illegal immigrants and their supporters want to limit local government's ability to "make it uncomfortable to be illegal" inside the US because they are only too aware that our Federal Governement will continue to take no real action against immigrants currently residing illegally in our country nor does the Federal Government wish to do really stop further open/illegal immigration. Why? To begin with our national leaders are too busy trying to make sure they do not alienate the emerging, potentially critical Hispanic/Latino voting bloc for the future (their political future) at the expense of the very people that elected them to office. Furthermore, our national leaders, regardless of party affiliation, are the same wealthy, politically powerful elite people that benefit the most economically from the presence of cheap illegal labor at the expense, once again, of the American people. Taking the last Presidential election as an example, which multi-millionaire/billionaire candidate did you support- the extremely wealthy Republican with enormous wealth from oil, or, the extremely wealthy Democrat that married into enormous wealth? Only the extremely wealthy can honestly afford to run for just about any government position short of the local level which not ironically would be the (common) people taking action against illegal immigration in the case you cite. Is the ordinance legal is a more interesting question and just from looking at it on the surface, I'm inclined to think it may very well be upheld as being constitutional since it doesn't seem to interfere with any specific Federal or state law and doesn't seem to break any other law or amendment; I'm kind of curious to see how this turns out.

I hadn't heard of this particular event, but I have heard about the challenges to Hazleton's new laws against illegal immigrants. I hope the laws are found to be legal and that all other cities will get on the bandwagon. The ones who don't, will get what they deserve - their cities will be flooded with the illegal immigrants and I hope they will receive NOTHING from the Federal government towards helping them look after their educational, medical, housing, welfare, and other social needs. Keep us posted on more stories like this in the current events of the day. Thanks for sharing!

the suitable: My mom and that i've got been finding with the aid of containers of previous photos, and we stumbled on the main hilarious photograph of two of my brothers, whilst they have been around 2 and 3, enjoying in a wadding pool, then stripping off their swim trunks and working around the backyard greenback bare. it is going to possibly be the funniest element people on the finished Bowl occasion see day after today... The worst: I had a tennis lesson and a vocal lesson at 10 and 11 o'clock, respectively, and have been given somewhat hungry between them. I only had time between them to stop at a Burger King, so i desperate to get a usual hamburger, no longer something on it, that's quite healthful, thinking it got here from a rapid foodstuff joint. I instructed the female no ketchup or pickles on it, so when I ate it in the vehicle, i concept i would not % the wrapper under it to capture drips, seeing the way it is likewise no longer greasy because of the fact the patty is flame-broiled. seems, they placed each little thing i did no longer % on it, so a boiling warm, ketchup lined pickle right away fell out on the 1st bite, and have been given throughout my jacket, pants, and somewhat of the vehicle.

I think this one's 'going to the mat'. Illegal aliens, most of whom are in fact from Mexico, aren't going to go quietly...and I fully think that ordinance is within the rights of the city council to carry out. If you're not in possession of a drivers license(which you shouldn't be if you're an illegal alien) proof of a paycheck(which you also should not have if you're illegal), have no proof of residence(again), generally it should be a real stony ***** of a deal getting an apartment. If they can't respect our laws, get em OUT of our country, period. Hasta la vista, sayonara, adios, whatever, at any rate get em out. This should be a no-brainer for the courts/Congress etc., but I don't know...I sense some foot-dragging...maybe about the part where they'll be taking out their own garbage or something...cheap labor makes for good slaves, and that by itself is the strongest possible argument for ending illegal immigration. We do NOT need a 'slave class' in america, and employers of illegals should be taken to court and fined for each and every instance. I'd start that fine at 10 grand...
