The labor component of goods manufactured is very small. What brings up the prices of goods is the exorbitant profit. Add the multimillion dollar wages of officers, presidents and CEOs. The minimum wages should be made higher than $10 per hour. When people have more money, they spend and buy more. That increases business. More business means more income and profit. More income by workers and business means more taxes. More taxes means more services for the people, better roads, more hospitals, etc.

A raise in the minimum wage is a pay cut for every other person who work's for more than minimum wage (which is very few people)
It does not matter if you raise it to 10 bucks an hour (doubling it) because the price of goods and services would go up companies would have to pay everyone else more. All you have done is caused inflation and people who work for minimum wage still are in the same boat.
Additionally with a raise in the minimum wage that high you would also force companies to farm out their labor to China, and India meaning people who used to make $5.15 an hour make nothing. Good job you have just destroyed peoples lively hood just to make yourself feel better.
The minimum wage should be whatever people are willing to work for.

No! You would see businesses going under left and right. The minimum wage issue is a feel good political issue that can only harm business. The facts are that the overwhelming majority of people who work minimum wage jobs are highschool kids, and those who are working only part time. Those folks who are really struggling to get buy are already working in jobs where they make $10 to $15 an hour.

Of course people want to make more money. But in some cases raising the minimum wage hurts some businesses. For example a small mom & pop store has 2 helpers (high school kids). The minimum wage goes up to $10 per hour. Now the mom & pop have to let one go because now instead of paying $14.65 per hour for 2 (including social security etc.). They have to pay $12.50 for 1. It just means that small businesses will hire less. If the business can not hire less people then the cost of their products will have to go up.

Any minimum wage is unfair to those who would otherwise earn less than that amount. They end up unemployed. For those who say you can't live on minimum wage, the guy flipping burgers at the fast food joint shouldn't be making enough to live on. If you are worth more, employers will pay more to keep you form going to someone who will.
rrbowker2002 has obviously heard the Rush Limbaugh argument on minimum wage. I agree, once you start deciding how much people should earn, why not make us all billionaires?

Minimum wage is government supported collusion on how much low wage earners should make. If there wasn't a mandated floor, then there would be competition on how much people should be paid. I know it's counter intuitive, but eliminating the minimum wage would increase how much low wage earners make. And to answer your question, stripping benefits would be a bad idea because many people would just opt for the extra money and not get benefits. Then if they got sick, they wouldn't be able to get treated or the state / county would get stuck with the bill.

Higher minimum wages lead to lower employment for unskilled and young workers. It also goes against the idea of a free market and personal liberty.
Also, minimum wage earners typically are young and single. Check the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Jmaximus, you must not believe in free will or capitalism. Nothing, outside of safety standards, should be mandatory.

It would pull everone that works down lower. You think that you would get better service if anyone that is hired got at least that pay? No. There would be less people operating the checkout lines, enerything will cost more and the people that worked to get a head would make the same as the person that doesn't want to work.

10/hr is insane. People need to realize that raising minimum wage just raises the prices of consumer and luxury goods. So in the long run it hurts poor people. Not to mention it's communist. If you want to be a communist then go to china, america is a free market.

Before I wrote this I read the answers that were here, and It is amazing how stupid us Americans are. Capitalism is an unfair system from the beginning. The system has gotten worse not better. Management of the workers should not take most of the money. When I started as a mechanic they got %50 of the labor. now I can get $18.00(which I don't) at most when the shop gets $90.00 on up. Money is to represent work and materials. Not Blackmail of the consumers. Example How much work has Bill Gates done to EARN his billions. How long are we going to let them say " let them eat cake" to answer the second part, you bet your ***, business is business is business.
