I'm guessing you don't exercise much, or you haven't in a while. That means that your body has very little muscle, which means that any excess weight you have is fat, giving you that extra tummy bulge.
Muscle burns calories 24 hours a day, but if you don't have much muscle, your metabolism can slow down, and if you don't watch what you eat, you could gain a real belly in a short period of time. So exercise will really help tighten and tone your whole body.
Your stress level is probably not helping things, either. But you should be spending a little time every day, walking, running, something to build muscle, and help out your metabolism. 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week is best, but even 2-3 days a week will help a little.
Keep a food diary. When you start, don't worry about counting fat or calories, just notice how much and what you are eating. Start learning what foods are good and bad. Just seeing it written down can be a surprise - you don't always notice how much you really eat when you eat it, but you sure notice every extra pound in that swimsuit. Watching what you eat helps you stay focused and eat healthier.

crunches and running will do wonders coming from experience
proper crunches: lay on your back and lift your legs up 90 degrees then bend your knees 90 degrees. put both hand behind your head and push up so that your elbows touch your knees.
do about 200 every morning and night it sounds like a lot but it really isn't
run about a mile every day if you can that will help too.

sit ups and crunches DO NOT BURN FAT AWAY!!!!! i jus wanted to dispell this myth. the only surefire way to burn fat from your midsection is to do cardio exercises like biking or walking at lest 5 times a week for 30 min each time, and to have a really healthy diet. also, u mite not lose the fat (it may be genetic for u to have it there)

PILATES! My mum has this one tape and its 20 minutes! It works! It uses your BODY to tone itself. Its really fun and quick! I also recomend to run at least thirty min a day for cardio and a few crunches now and then.
Also through out the day....SUCK IT IN!
Always helps ;)
