I have a Papillon that is six months old and it seems his hair isn't growing and he also sheds a lot. Is this normal? How long does it usually take for its hair to grow out?

Any answers would be appreciated...

Papillons go through a period, which I term the "ugly duckling" phase around 4 to 12 months. They are growing in their adult coat, sometimes the ears are floppy and their tails straighten. This is natural to papillons so don't worry if your puppy looks nothing like the adult. Give him time and I am certain that once he is a year old, he will fulfill all your expectations. As for the shedding, papillons shed like crazy, at least my papillons shed like crazy. I brush them once and the comb is literally filled with their hair. I recommend a good lint roller and don't wear black clothing. Best of luck!

My parents have two papillons. In fact they are breeding them. The Male is pure bred and is extremely fluffy. The female is not pure bred and is fluffy around her mane, the rest of her hair is still long like the males but not fluffy. Both of them shed a lot. My mom tends to vacumn the couch that is a burgandy color every other day. They are really great animals though if you can with stand the shedding.
Talk to your vet the next visit and ask him or her what they think. If they arent familar with that breed find another vet that is. Goodluck and ENJOY!

the shedding a lot is normal because he is getting close to being an adult and is shedding his puppy fur. Puppies have puppy fur for most of thier puppy time, once they are about a year old you'll notice his papillon fur growing into its characteristics.

It's summer, so he probably has his puppy coat and his summer coat. He'll be shedding that to get his winter coat through soon, hopefully that will grow as an adult coat and he'll have longer hair; but some of them do have a shorter coat.

Its coat is probably short because it's summer and the dog is a puppy. I'd still check w/ the vet just in case! Have a nice day! :)

You need to have the puppy's liver checked. Small dogs that have problems growing hair can sometimes have liver shunt problems. I see it all the time. Good luck.

Take your Pappy to the vet. He may have a thyroid problem. I have a dog who had those problems and it turned out she had a thyroid problem. Don't worry though, it's nothing too serious and easily treated with a tiny little pill.

Ha ha, a bald papillon. Maybe she is brazillian? I suggest that you shave her head and call her curley. That would be cool. Also, after you do this, please post a pic. Good luck with curley. Nyuk nyuk nyuk.

Any coat problem should be checked by your vet. It might be an illness.
