No. 1 The loans have been repaid
No. 2 I would like to encourage my fellow Americans not to get sucked into this thing. There are morons in the UK as well as here and invariably when one makes some crack a lot of Americans fire back insulting comments about the UK that are embarrassing. The Brits are excellant troops and deserve respect. They are strong allies and have been for a very long time. We both sacrificed to defeat Germany and that's all that need be said.

also dodgy ships are always better than no ships when most of your navy is at the bottom. we used everything we had to combat our foes and save our allied lives.

Ha? You may want to consult a History book friend, we still had a big navy fully functional, bottom of the sea?

and i love the typical American response. WE used everything WE could to SAVE our allied lives.
Okay America saves the world yet again, single handidly.
And the War was already basically over when you guys enterd the way. We should thank the Russians who are the true heroes.

If I recall correctly, the Lend-Lease program basically ended up being a **GIFT** from the U.S. -- the Arsenal of Democracy -- to the other allies. None of the Allies -- USSR, UK, France, etc, EVER paid us back in money -- our payment was the good will and support of the allies -- at least until they forgot who helped them once again.

Roosevelt's original plan was to sell older stuff to help you through the early stages of the war before the U.S. was involuntarily involved. This appeased the isolationists, who thought that we could stay out of the war by not being involved, and hopefully keep the Axis powers from attacking us. As history has shown, it didn't work very well on either count, did it?

Yes you are still paying the US for the purchases made during WWII. Not just the loans for military armaments but you're also paying billions and billions of dollars back the US for the Marshall plan which essentially rebuilt Europe. I don't believe the United States ever anticipates a full payback of the money that was loaned and used to rebuild the European powers, but i do know for a fact everyone is still paying. The only country which has paid its debts to America completely is Finland (norway, sweeden, it's one of them...)

as you are asking this question in english and not german then i guess whatever you paid was worth it huh? we helped each other because we are allies or friends, how do you treat your friends? during the war many war materials where sold or given to allied countries some of these items where scrap that those countries needed to make items to defend themselves as we use scrap to recycle today it was done back then also. also dodgy ships are always better than no ships when most of your navy is at the bottom. we used everything we had to combat our foes and save our allied lives.

sure, provided that the Russians have been advancing from the east even earlier the D Day landings. some thing it relatively is likewise frequently forgotten approximately Britain in international warfare 2 is that it develop into no longer purely British troops who fought on our area, it develop into troops from all over the Commonwealth and previous colonies. With a good number of folk doubtlessly available, and the main important military interior the international at that element nonetheless controlling the seas alongside with the RAF combating the Luftwaffe from accomplishing air superiority over the united kingdom, all stored removed from substantial US intervention previous that of offering kit, which they have been doing besides, as we agreed to pay for each little thing with interest, the united kingdom could have endured very almost indefinitely in isolation. by the time British factors could have been dwindling, the Russians could be marching by way of Berlin and the Germans could have been purely a tad greater preoccupied with that. without the U. S. intervention, even with the shown fact that, Europe could have had an exceedingly diverse shape, as there could have been little or no to end Communist troops from rolling on the instant by way of to the Atlantic coast. probability is Britain and eire could have been the only non Communist international locations left in Europe. factors approximately Germany having a brilliant quantity of ships are merely no longer real. The Kriegsmarine develop into many times outfitted upon Admiral Doenitz's submarine arm with very few different super ships available to them. And the submarine warfare became after all, while British code breakers captured a Kriegsmarine Enigma gadget and ought to pay attention in and decode all alerts transmitted to and from U-boats. This meant ships interior the Atlantic have been much less susceptible and must be guided removed from uboat assaults. we are very solid at conflict presently, and on multiple activities for the time of historic previous, yet this has no longer continually been consistent. It does no longer be complicated to come across protection tension blunders in with the attention. Take Gallipolli as a case in point. thousands of thousands of ineffective Anzacs, frequently ineffective because of the fact they have been landed on the incorrect coastline and intelligence which pronounced the terrain develop into flat inland develop into woefully erroneous. Operation marketplace backyard develop into yet another, fairly much less vast, blunder yet nonetheless fee the lives of many adult males.

Just presuming you're posting from England, since you were too ignorant to identify yourself.

It was always said by whom? Or are you just repeating stupid comments you heard muttered in a pub by a diseased drunk somewhere?

We freely gave a lot of perfectly good equipment to the rest of the Allies via the Lend-Lease program, much of which you never even attempted to pay for though you were quick to replace your own defective and trashed equipment with our brand-new items which you readily admitted were better than your own obsolete crap.

And not to mention all of our soldiers, sailors, and airmen who were wounded and killed while protecting your crappy little chunk of Euro-trash soil.

Piss off.

It was new gear. Tanks and planes that were old got melted down after the first war. And as for dodgy ships yes they were cheap, but it dosent mater if its a great ship or a junky one a torpedo sinks them all. so why waste good steel, build a tank that can help win the war.

JR Murray is not quite correct - Britain will finally repay its debt to America at the end of this year. The fact that America has been so bloody patient suggests people like the questioner should be more grateful and stop complaining.

Well said NONAME ! As an Englishman I agree completely. We stopped the nazi madman eventually, no matter who gave us what or who played a bigger part than whom, at the time we needed each other desperately. Many brave souls from many many nations gave everything for our present freedom.Try and remember that when you next launch a verbal assault on our war time allies, whom we need today as much as ever.
