Whatever language both people know. That's not a joke answer, but THE answer. There is no such thing as "body language", different cultures have different rules for body gestures. Sign language is not universal either. There is no such thing as a universal language. Even the "language" of love is not universal as different cultures have different rules about the expression of love.

the easiest language to be understood in is body language. this includes sign language. you see, the only spoken language you can understand for sure, no mistakes made, is your own native language, and whatever other languages you're fluent in. there's no trick for this; you must speak the language, or else, a similar language so you might have a bit of a clue. for example, a swedish person might understand a norwegian person without having studied the norwegian language, because they are very similar.

your native language, all languages have their own idiosyncracies and idiomatic usages that vary from others. Perhaps the question you are asking is which is the easiest to learn as a second language. That will depend on interest. I found swahili to be as easy as french.

I would say Spanish, Italian, any of the Romance languages, because they have a definite rhythm and flow to them, they are spelled phonetically and once you get the basic rules, it is quite simple to become fluent.
