Yes you will lose your Permanent US Residence. once you move to Canada. US Residence means that you are a resident of the USA and that you are here legally if you move to Canada then you are and illegal alien in Canada and you need to apply for legal residence in Canada. or risk being deported back to Mexico or to the USA if deported to USA you will lose your Resident statue because you were deported from a different country that proves that you violated your status in the USA.

In order to be a resident of any place in the world you have to spend at least six months and one day having an official residence in that place, IF you go to Canada and spend six months and one day in Canada for every year then you are a Canada resident, and Yes you loose your USA residence, unless you ask for an special request that allows you to be up to two years straight out of USA

If you are legally moving to Canada you will lose your us status.Remember you are not a us citizen.If you are going to stay in Canada without going through all the paper work,then you have to return every six months and even then you will still have problems because both sides will want to know what you doing so long abroad.

There are different VISAS that you can apply for. I think you have to live in Canada for a certain amount of time, then you can apply as a permanent resident. I hope this helps.
