What is ghost? Did you ever see one??

Whether ghosts exist? What is a ghost? Some people claim to have seen them. Have you ever come across one? If so please share your experience.

In most cases, it's made-up stuff where people want attention or to get something else (e.g. money - haunted hotels attract people, paranormal investigators need to make a living, etc.). In other cases, people have a very real experience of a 'ghost' which their minds are creating (for whatever reason). A good analogy is the mind/body phenemonon called 'sleep paralysis' where the mind inadvertently enters a stage of wakefulness while it still has the body in the normal paralysis state of REM sleep. In many cases, it causes a great deal of fear and people's minds have reacted to it by projecting an experience of demons visting them (during the middle ages) or aliens abducting them (modern times). Again, it's important to realize that in this case, the experience is very real - the mind has created it - but the experience's cause (real demons, aliens) is not. Same thing with ghosts - if people believe in ghosts and some event occurs that causes fear or some other strong emotion, the mind may unconsciously create a ghost experience.

There is no question that ghosts exist, however, there is no true understanding of what ghosts *are* or where they came from.

Are ghosts autonoumous and capable of moving around, making decisions, responding intelligently? I don't think so.

Are ghosts the "souls" of dead people? I don't think so.

Are ghosts some kind of energy phenomenon that manifest as echoes of living beings since past, and though spontaneous and random appear to be responding to physical stimulation? I think this is closer to it.

Could the above be true and in addition these phenomena react somehow to forms of human energy that we do not yet understand, and in doing so appear to be responding directly to humans? For example, appear when somone is very emotional due to the energy that is radiated? I think this is very likely.

I have experienced “ghosts” firsthand and while it was as scary as hell, it was more like watching scary special effects than it was watching (and hearing) an actual being.

I have never spoke to, heard or read anyone credible who had true duplex/back-and-forth correspondence with a “ghost” that would provide evidence that it was some form of intelligent being.

My grandma who passed away on Feb. 14th, 1989 head a trailor in which there were recorded instinces in which it had been fully engulfed in flames 5 different times according to neighbors making the call to the fire department. Upon reaching the residence there were no signs of smoke or fire at all. Records still exist of their response. This place was a haven for spiritual activity and it had a chilling past. Purchased in 1982 it was towed to Virginia where it was set up for a family who did not make the payments. Unpon repossession of the trailor they found the remains of the occupants inside. As the story goes the man killed his wife in the master bedroom and put her body in the bath tub. He then killed his 6 year old child and the family dog and dismembered their bodies in the toilet and bath tub. He then killed himself in the hallway leading to the bedroom with a double barrell sawed off shot gun. This was not the trailor my grandma picked out and had set up. It was not even the same color. The trailor my grandma bought was burned down on the lot during an electrical storm and the mobile home people could not reach her and tell her so they gave her this newly repoed one at a discount.
A ghost is an energy apperation commonly refered to as soul. And I have seen "casper" on a number of occasions. I remember being in the master bedroom and standing in the doorway with the door pulled up to my back with one leg in and one out of the room. And I saw a shoe from the floor fly up and hit me on the side of my leg. It scared me to death. My grandma told me casper woulkd get me if I did not keep that door closed and he did. She took the broom in there and beat the mattress and wall and yelled for casper to quit being mean to me. This is the only proof I have to the countless number of instances and people that this place has affected. It is still there today though empty and cold and the owners will not rent it out peroid.

A ghost is merely a memory trapped in time. A spirit however is the soul energy of a person who has passed to another existence. My grandfather was the first spirit I saw and heard sometime after he died.

Saw this in Northern Alabama, Limestone County, between Huntsville and Athens between 1996 and 1998.

Was driving home from working night shift off at midnight, road was foggy, creeks on one side. Going up a hill I stopped the truck to allow a mule drawn wagon driven by a white haired ***** cross the road. Wagon had really large wheels on rear and smaller wheels on front. Four mules,were white or grey wagon was loaded with cotton.

Got home shakens and scared, had two bourbons with diet coke and went to bed. This area of northern Alabama has many old pre-Civil War plantations still standing. Where I saw the what evers, was over a farm path leading to a red brick plantation style house.

Spoke t o neighbor who grew up in area, described what I saw, he told me I had seen "Old Sam" and it was a blessing as only the luckiest folks ever got to see him, Was asked if he was grinning and I told them that he had a pipe in his mouth. They said I could expect to live a long time and might meet Old Sam when I died.

Some people (very well known spiritualists) say that ghosts and spirits are very different. I, believe that there are very different levels or types of spirits or ghosts (although I tend to use the names interchangeably). I have seen them, lived with them, worked with them, appreciated them, contacted them. I guess spirits to me are the ones that you kind of contact and are around your house and are "lighter of spirit" or atleast that is how I might describe them. A ghost might be a heavier "feeling" entitiy. For instance, we have had ghosts in our home, my sister has one in hers, spirits, many times come together (more than one at a time).

ghost can be explained as the negative energy present in each and every person so if i am a bad person with bad intentions and that would persist even after my death and that negative energy will be called so.or even the negative or sin attitude shown by others on the good people may give rise to one.

I thought I saw one before. I fell asleep on my couch and woke up at about 4am and saw a really tall shadow that looked like the dude from the move Big Fish.

I freaked out and it vanished. I was probably just half asleep, but its a good story nonetheless.

A spirit is another name, the one I prefer to use. I have sensed them yes. Somtimes you get this cold sensation running through your body, which leads to fear of the spirits. Other times, you may actually want to get to know the spirit. I have had a short conversation with my deceased great grandfather. And I have felt him and my deceased great grandmother several times. It's wonderful. but it is scary when you sense foreign ones in the middle of the night or when you're all alone.
