How do you feel about the following verses? and do you live them?
I desire, then, that in every place the men should pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument; also that the women should dress themselves modestly and decently in suitable clothing, not with their hair braided, or with gold, pearls, or expensive clothes, but with good works, as is proper for women who profess reverence for God. Let a woman learn in silence with full submission. I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she is to keep silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve; and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. Yet she will be saved through childbearing, provided they continue in faith and love and holiness, with modesty. [1 Timothy, chapter 2]
Do you dress modestly in cheap clothes and without jewelry? Are you silent in church and in the presence of men? Do you have children...as women can only be saved through childbirth?

Oh, so you get to throw out the parts you don't like? Your religion gets more and more convenient.
BTW I have read the bible cover to cover over 20 times. I have also read it in Hebrew and greek. Have any of you hypocrites done so? Or are you content being spoon fed by your pastors?

I think some of the things in the Bible cannot be judged by today's standards. Sometimes what the Bible says is different literally or was common for the days in which the Bible was written. For example, the verse about children being disciplined by a rod, does not mean that a child should be physically beaten w/ a rod. U know what I mean?
As a Christian female, I do dress modestly, but not in cheap clothes and I love jewelry, haha. I'm not silent in church or in the presence of men. My church has female guest pastors and I've always learned that women should have just the same freedom as men to voice their opinions and/or preachings. I think because of the old standards that were valid, a few Christians that I know are very strict and read the Bible verbatim. There's nothing wrong w/ that, but I don't think it's mandatory to be a good Christian.

I've never really cared for those verses. In my church men and women pray. I don't think it's possible for anyone to learn in silence. You need to speak up, especially if you have a question or have something to add. When you praise God you don't praise in silent. No man has any authority over me. Only God has authority over me and I have been a saved Christian woman for many years. Women don't have to be silent in the church, I think that's outdated. These days there are plenty of women preachers who were called by God to preach His Word. I've worn my hair braided plenty of times and I know many women who also wear braids. I also wear jewelry and the price of your clothes does not matter. I don't think what you wear or don't wear really matters. God is not looking at your appearance, He's looking at your heart and if your heart is right with God then that's all that matters. And whoever told you that women can only be saved through childbirth lied to you. You're saved by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior. No woman is required to have children.

I'm surprised that someone who has read the Bible so many times as you profess hasn't learned more about the very heart of it - unconditional love, humility and mercy.
I can tell you're frustrated with what you perceive to be hypocrisy and ignorance. When I first read your question I was ready to applaud you for exploring the Scriptures that are controversial and hard to understand.
But by the time I read your smug, self-righteous follow ups, I realized you weren't asking questions to learn anything - you already believe you have it all figured out, so you're simply throwing down a gauntlet to try and trip others up to "prove" what charlatains and hypocrites Christians are....
Nonetheless, I'll answer your "question".
Paul is writing to Christians here. "She shall be saved" does not refer to the woman being saved from sin as in the born again experience. She is already born again. The Greek word "sozo" translated "saved", means so much more than the forgiveness of sins. In this application it is a promise of protection during childbearing. However, this is a conditional promise - It is not conditional in the sense that the couple must earn God's blessing, but they do have to believe the Lord for this benefit. It doesn't come automatically.
Paul is speaking of the relationship between a husband and wife in the church. The word for women in the Greek means "wife", and for men it is "husband". The relationship in the church is to be the same as in the home...the wife is quiet and submitted to the husband, modest in outward apparel, but expansive in her works of compassion..the "inner clothing" of her heart.
This doesn't mean that women can't preach or speak in church ever - because there were NT female prophets (hard to be a prophet and not speak), and in the OT there was a God-appointed female judge over Israel. This isn't about the role of men and women in church or in leadership...it's about the relationship of husbands and wives...and again, their roles are to be the same in church as they are in the home.
Not bad advice really. Too many marriages break up when a woman grows older and loses her looks, but if she cultivated so much more on the inside than placing all emphasis on that outer, temporary shell, then quite honestly there should be more to the marriage relationship than fleeting, physical attraction.
Being submitted to a husband is never popular teaching in our society, but it's wise teaching. I've tried it both ways and the best way is the way the Book sets it up. But remember...the husband a wife is to be submitted to should be loving her as Christ loves the church - unconditionally, unending, sacrificially. There are definitely two sides to that equation, and this does not mean women are intended to be door mats as society would have us believe.
I recommend you go for reading #21. Only this time, try and notice what it's really saying. See if that doesn't help you become a nicer person towards ALL, unbelievers or uninformed believers or theologians. We all need mercy and grace, ya know?

My, my, my what an uplifting verse of scripture for those of us who could not and did not conceive. There are many women who live single lives and choose to live holy lives as his commandment admonishes us to do. I dress modestly and learn from my male pastor those things he believes God has shared. I do not wear jewelry but I have to tell you it is because I have never been impressed by any jewelry at all, ever.
I would very much appreciate it if you would not take scriptures out of context for your own personal belief and throw it around like you have some special knowledge about the scripture itself. It is possible you know very little other chapters and verses in that complex, holy, awe inspired book.
Once you have read it through, you get back to me.

Sorry not a woman but I can't help but answer. Too many times men have abdicated their authority of the spiritual leaders in the home and in the church. Lack of leadership causes a vacuum that will be filled by anyone willing to take on the responsibility. This, women will do whether they are right or wrong. Unfortunately even if men seeing women doing a job that was meant for them, men will undoubtedly continue in their lazy habits and condone direct violation of scripture for convenience. Men are to be the head but women are to be the neck.
If women are dressing to draw attention to themselves and detracting from the message or the attitude of worship this is sin. If a woman is speaking to draw attention to herself in a vain manner, this is inappropriate worship and God is not honored. Men can also do this and are just as guilty of trying to sway the attention of women to them during the gathering. This is sin also.

I do not dress in any attire that shows my body off in a sexual way. Keeping modest just plainly shows respect for yourself and others. The saying around our house is "If you are willing to show that much then how much more are you willing to show?"
As for keeping quiet in the church; I think this was for the times of the Bible. There are so many women who teach Sunday School these days and it's mainly because the men won't step up to the plate and do so. (I'm not man bashing either it's just fact)
Women are not just saved through childbirth. We are saved by grace. Only through repenting our sins and asking for forgiveness are we saved. If anything in my opinion childbirth keeps up humble because we can't do it without God.
Hope this helps.
God Bless and keep you.

No, I do not have children. Yes, I dress modestly and wear little jewelry. I am not silent in the presence of men, though. Unless we make ourselves heard, justice may be only a dream. Women are where the transforming power is.

Where did you get that lie about women can only be saved thorugh childe birth. That is a bold face lie. All people, men and women a like can be saved only though acceptance of Jesus as their savor, and by no other means.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
What you just did is what God warns us about. False prophets will give you just enough truth, to get you attention, and then wham!!! Hit you with satan's complete and utter lie.
Shame on you!!!
