We all have to wrestle with the questions that are troubling you. There just is not absolute proof of anything.
But I will tell you how I have resolved things for me. I focus on the "big picture". I look at the complexity of the universe and of the life forms in it. It's just incredible that it all works every day. Just the process of moving a muscle is a miracle.
Then I ask myself: Is it reasonable to think that all of this "just happened"? I think not. Especially the life forms are way too complex to have been an accident.
So if all this didn't "just happen", how did it come about? Someone must have designed it. That must be God. Some people call this "Intelligent Design".
As for the Bible and other books, people wrote those (perhaps with the help of God). But they are meant to tell the story of creation and God's relationship with people. That doesn't have to mean that every word is exactly true. It really does not matter as long as we get the big ideas.
I hope that you find peace.

God is not real, but the reason so many religious swear blind God is real is because religious believers suffer from a common mental illness.
If we assume the universe was created, then it’s reasonable to assume there was a creator. That’s as far as science has progressed today, but just look how far religion has progressed.
Religion states (fact) there was a creator called God, that God still exists, God also created places called Heaven & Hell, God wrote an instruction book called the Bible, God will banish evil people to Hell, God will send good people who follow the Bible to heaven, that people referred to in the Bible (like Jesus) will return to Earth, and a whole raft of other statements of fact. That’s right, religious fact, not assumptions.
Now tell me truthfully, if science doesn’t even know yet whether the universe was created or not, but religious believers state: “not only was the universe created by God, here’s a whole lot more proof and facts to go with it, what do you think?
Either religious believers just have vivid imaginations or suffer from a common mental illness. I think commonsense and logic would suggest that religious believers are mentally handicapped.

The problem, which is more prevalent in the US, starts when you expect the Bible to perform as a scientific text. The Bible has the right to be what it is: an ancient text containing a testimony of God's revelation and providing insight into the mystery of life. It's a mistake to deny it its category; but this mistake is more frequently found among believers who are into "proving" that the Bible is right. Adam and Eve are narratives that tell us that we have a beginning, therefore we better accept that just as the human race has a beginning it will have an end. We need from each other and from God to enjoy life. We'd better humble ourselves.

I commend you asking your question. Do not worry that others may accept or understand your reasons for asking.
First, religion and science are not in opposition, but compliment each other. One the one had creationism attempts to explain the beginning of our world, and on the other science attempts to explain it through examination.
As to Cain, the Bible accepts that there were other peoples on earth. Cain was expelled from his home and forced into exile in a strange land where he married and raised a family. The mark of Cain was a symbol for others not to kill Cain or suffer the wrath of God. If there were no others the mark would have no value, would it?
Genesis speaks of Adam and Eve as the beginning of the covenant with God (the beginning of the Hebrew people), and as such Adam and Eve are the first humans with direct knowledge and experiences related to the one true God.
The Bible is not all inclusive, or should it be taken literally in many cases. The Bible should be used to guide your personal journey to God. Ask and you shall receive.
Whatever you believe, peace be with you.

Nick, you are worried about many things. If I gave you the answer to each of these questions would you then believe? I can give you the answer. But it is not about knowing all the answers and being able to prove everything. God is not on trial. Jesus did not die for God's sins. He died for my sins. The question is . . .is God trustworthy? I have decided that God is trustworthy. . . and that Jesus is what He said. . . the way , the truth, and the life.
Science has been proved wrong more than a few times. It is not about science it is about faith. I would rather have a Bible next to my bed on the day I die than a science book.

The bible is not science and does not contain all answers about life, both atheist and protestants are mixed up on this.
Sound reason points to the excistence of God.
Though it's hard sometimes to use sound reason for anyone.
Science puts the q how?and what?
Religion puts the q why?
Science can never come up with the answer to the "why?" ever.
because it's not it's proper sphere. This doesn't mean that science is not true.
You see your q about Cain's wife is insignificant in comparision to other q about life ( this is not to say there's not an answer to just that q)

well Adam and Eve had many children, God told them to go forth and multiply! They also lived a very long life, so there were different generations of them. It was not until the Levicticus law that the law came in regarding incest being forbidden. Think about it, we are all related anyway, because we all came from Adam and Eve!

There is only one true answer and it's in the bible that God divinely inspired and gave to us as His free gift from Him to all of us. Cane went off with one of his sisters and started his own family. All of Adam, and Eves children went off and started familes of their own. Back then in order to populate the earth, that was allowed by God. Today it isnt'. Back then, God did not bring in birth defects in babies that siblings today produce if they got pregnant together. God does not allow that now.
It served it's purpose back then, with Adam and Even, and even with Noah and His family. We dont have to have every minute detail about every thing, when most people can';t handle the truth about God and Him being our Creator. If you can't handle that, what makes you think you are entitled to learn anyting else about God, the universe, etc?
Are you the kind of person that picks up a book and goes stright to the end to find out it's ending first? In order to understand the word of God, you must take your time, and grow together with God, as He leads you through the scriptures. You can't do it without God and His blessings.

Adam had another son named Seth, and the bible doesn't go into how many other people were in the world at that time, both Cain and Seth had wives, but the purpose of the lineage of the bible is to show the lineage of Jesus back to Adam. but if God could create two people he could surely create more. the Bible just never goes into that.

I do not think it is possible for people to reproduce that fast.Yes,Adam and Eve supposedly had lots of children, but that still doesn't explain it.If God had to mark him so people in other lands wouldn't kill him, there were just too many freaking people for them to have all come from Adam and Eve.They say people lived longer, but that still doesn't make since. They had to be of a certain age to reproduce, and unless Cain and Abel were middle-aged,there still wouldn't be that many people. But then, they think a man put two of every living thing on a big boat...
