Epilepsy
They cut the Corpus Callosum (a "data pipe" connecting the two hemispheres of the human brain) to help people to deal with otherwise untreatable seizures.

There are some very interesting studies on people who have been so treated.

Why would you ask such a question? The brain is split in a very rare surgery for epilpsy when nothing else, like medication, works and the seizures are signficant. Both epilepsy and Parkinsons are neurological disorders, Downs Syndrome is chro mosomal, and syphillis is a veneral disease.
