Everyone looked like they were having fun in the 60's and 70's and people seemed less violent. Woodstock in the 70's was not violent and peaceful while in the 90's, it was a disaster.

Yes and no. There were some great ideals but in practical terms there was inflation, unemployment, long gas lines, women in the workplace were frowned on and grossly underpaid, medical conditions which can easily be controlled now were life-threatening then, young men feared being drafted into war, loved ones losing their lives in Vietnam, the heartbreak of seeing a president being murdered, more racial prejudice, an in many areas domestic violence was seen as a "domestic problem" and police didn't bother themselves with it. Our president was murdered. There were also clothes-hanger abortions and a pregnant student wasn't allowed to go to school. Phones had cords, there were no microwaves, and we could get 3 channels on our black and white TV (remotes didn't exist), etc.......

The '60s were great, but the '70s were full of polyester and bad music like "Wildfire" and "Honey" and "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round The Old Oak Tree" and "You Light Up My Life." All the 'soft' drugs from the '60s (hallucinogens, pot) had gone out of fashion, while 'hard' drugs like coke and crack and heroin spread like wildfire. The '70s took the sexual liberation of the '60s and turned it into a petri dish for AIDS, herpes, and drug-resistant STDs. Fortunately, everyone had the option of dancing their titz off in discos every night, which helped many remain largely oblivious to a monumentally tacky decade.

Yes.

You said it best with Woodstock. In the original it was all about listening to music and having a good time.

The second Woodstock you have a bunch of azzholes running around raping girls, thieving, vandalism, and throwing crap (literally) at the performers up on stage.

I would prefer to hang out with the first Woodstock crew.

Sure, if you like wars, riots, assassinations, constant threat of (real) nuclear war, double digit inflation, gas shortages, people murdering each other for gasoline, presidents resigning in disgrace,... gosh, I just can't think of all the great things that went on in the 60's & 70's, they were so much fun.

And, the highlight for me was my all expense paid vacation with the US Army.

That was really great...

I like to think so...as a kid I can only remember a little, but it was fun. My older friends and familia always remind me of how peacful and fun it was, but the world was a different place then..... we didn't have the things we have now. Maybe cuz of ignorance at the time but it was fun when it happened...

And having to wear those awful pants? The 70's saw also the protest against Vietnam, and Nixon in power (as mean as Bush but with more brains)... it doesn't look that romantic in my rearview mirror.

by the time we realized that the 60's and 70's were the time for peace and loove, it was 1984 and we were still looking for big brother and really didn't realize that he was already here and wearing a republican hat.
