I guess my question to you is; what do you consider a fun game? A dog doesn't care what you're doing, as long as its interesting and tiresome. I would walk your dog in the morning for at least 30 min, everyday, and if he/she has the energy to play a little bit at night then throw a tennis ball around. But any game you play should be on YOUR terms, not the dogs. Don't allow your dog to have "possession" of any toys or play when you no longer want too. This is a dogs way of telling you who is boss/pack leader and can result in other issues.

I take it you have an overweight Lab! If you feed a low calorie high volume biscuit such as Bakers Light, you can use part of your dogs ration as treats for games. Their enthusiasm does tend to pick up.
There's the old favourite, Hunt the Biscuit. And there's Warmer, Colder.
Other than that, theres ball games and frisbee, and swimming if you have a suitable river near you.
Go for long walks every day and try to find somewhere there's plenty of scents to get interested in.

Do you have any friends that have a puppy about 4 - 5 months old ? Schedule play dates with someone that has a puppy and they will play and chase like crazy.

See if he'll chase a laser pointer. You can get him to run a couple of miles in a half hour with one of these.

Play yard games with the dog. I also run up and down the yard and she chases me. Short walks for 20-30 minutes a day work great. Limit treats, give healthy food at meal times -check calories and vitamins on the dog food you choose. I also go up and down 2 flights of in house steps that she follows me several times a day to get the exercise she needs Its working!!!!!
