developed a water heater that has a setable timer on it and donated one to each houshold in America. Okay I'm up in the night eating the food of the gods, (milk and cookies) I hear a strange whooshing noise. It's the water heater coming to life. Yess I'm poor white trailer trash. So the water heater is going and I say to myself. DUDE do I need hot water right now? I answer myself. DUDE I really don't think so!!!!!!Now if I could time my water heater to give me hot water when I need it and all of America could do the same with the heaters my bud Bill donated how much energy would America save. Also would that make Bill a really cool guy plus he's about the only one with the money to pull it off

I like Kimberlys idea. But I like yours better. My hot water pipes burst under the slab, and we didn't figure it out for like 2 weeks. Our freaking gas bill went from 28 bucks to 99.00 scarey!!!!

Don't know the answer to your Q.
But here's a better idea:

Tell those greedy bastard oil companies that they're rich enough already and to stop charging $3/gallon for gas!

But if Bill Gates decides to give hand-outs, I'll take a replacement truck instead of the water heater. Our 1985 Toyota lasted a while, but it's about ready for the Junkyard In The Sky *sniff sniff*

You need running water for a refrigeration system, because if not, the efficiency would decay as the condensing temperature rises, until the refrigeration cycle stops.

Believe me, the tankless water heater is a better idea. The problem is that your electric consumption boostes while you use it. So, if you have hired a small power service, you would have to disengage every other electric appliance in the house. Given that, it's still my choice.

Note: I know of gas powered tankless heaters, but in my country almost everybody uses electric ones. Actualy, it is rare to find someone that actually uses gas other than for cooking.

As others have said tank-less water heaters (which you can buy now) are a better solution. If you really want a timer, they have been available for years. You've seem a lamp timer to turn your lights on and off for vacation. A larger version works for a water heater. We had one about 20 years ago.

If Carlos Sosa is an HVAC expert, why isn't he aware that tank-less water heaters come in gas as well as electric versions?

That would be a tankless water heater. It heats the water as you use it,not in a tank.Cool, huh? But,another solution would be to have your refrigerator heat your water. It can happen and has been done, but it has to be done right or you will burn your house down or fry yourself. If there is a house that uses a lot of hot water-say a lot of kids taking baths and such,it would probably be more energy effecient to do it that way.The coils on the fridge would keep the water hot all the time, and you wouldn't have to pay one cent more than what you pay for the refrigerator.THAT would be awesome!
