There seem to be different "peaces"? Hmmm. I'd like to understand what is culturally different from one peace vs another.

Yes, from what I know about it, I think it probably is. The problem arises from the interpretation of some of it's teachings, which is then exploited by hate filled imams, using their immense influence on the young impressionable people of their religion.

Most Muslims are peaceful, law abiding people, who want nothing to do with what is happening in their community. I just wish more would stand up and be counted, in denouncing the terrorists in their communities.

Christians chopped the Turks heads off during the Crusades and catapulted them over the walls. Christians killed non-Christians for centuries and went around the world trying to 'civilise' 'savages'. I mean George Bush is such a kind and devoted Christian that he invaded Iraq and gave so many people a hell of a good time. Iraq's such a dry country that they'd really appreciate some rain -so let's rain down bombs on them. And then there were those really lucky political prisoners who were locked up in jail, and were liberated by George Bush's stooges in Abu Graib by being made to know the 'civilised' pleasure of rape.

Despite all this, Christianity is still a religion which promotes peace, and it would be unfair to say that all Christians are violent using history as a reflection and George Bush as a representative.

Equally, it is unfair to paint an image of Islam based on a minority of violent people like Al Qaeda who twist Islam. If you opened your mind and took the time to read a little more -and read unbiased sources, then you would discover that Islam promotes peace and brotherhood.

Oh and Prem Palmer -you should see what the Oxford English Dictionary's definition of infidel:

'An adherent of a religion other that Christianity'. -Muslims do not consider Chrisitians or Jews as 'infidels' even though they do not follow Islam.

If in your observation of what is happening in the world at large is your point, then maybe many will have the right to say no. But since you are asking if Islam means Peace then it is YES and not only Islam but all religions are made primarily in search of INNER PEACE. Only those who lead in a more radical environment are the ones making it hard to achieve PEACE.
Go back some 75 years ago anywhere in the world and you will find Christians, Jews, Catholics and Muslims were going into their daily lives greetings of hello, shalom, Assalamallaykum and good day is echoing in every corner of the streets specially in Jerusalem. Progress made some prosperous and others were left behind. Some needed equality and equal privelege. To some they do not want to share because they said they work hard for it and others must do the same. And some wanted to have it the easy way and made issues that make both hard to achieve peaceful agreement.
There were people who have their lands idle for hundreds of years and they did not do anything. A foreigner came in and offer to buy and develop the area. They sold it and then went somewhere else. when the foreigner was able to make progress, the children of the former owner went back and claim the land back from the foreigner who now owns it and they say that it is their land from the beginning disownning any part of agreement between their elders accusing them of land grabbing. Now they use their religions as their excuse to fight for their rights.
So, even PEACE has been distorted because it became a question of peace on whose terms?

What do you mean? Multiple Muslim countries are invaded by barbarian Western (Christian) armies whose only achievements are restricted to killing innocent civilians and destructing infra structure, then some people expect Muslims to be slaughtered as cattles without any resistance or the right for self defense. How you people think? Do you watch the news or you live on another planet to ask such a question? Yes Islam is a religion of peace when its hand is the upper hand.

No it isn't.

This is a religion full of contradiction as many say about Christianity.

Being a Christian means to be a follower of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ never raised his hand to take someone life -- even when they came to take him to his death.

In Islam if you read some of their scriptures you will see that their prophet took many lives for differing reasons.

Though there are many peaceful Muslims their silence when fellow Muslims bomb and mame is deafening.

Not all Muslims are terrorists but all terrorists are Muslim -- usually from the Middle East.

I believe that Islam is a false religion created by a false prophet which, the Bible clearly warns us about:

Mat 7:15Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Mat 24:11And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

I believe that 1.5 Billion people have been deceived.

Wasnt so long ago we were burning witches.
Religion is a powerful tool for good or bad.
Victorian England and the technological bent of western society was produced by Christianity as well so mixed feelings are appropriate when evaluating its place in life. If you want some violence and prejudice read the old testament. Not only kill the warriors but the women and children AND get this - their animals as well and sprinke salt on the ashes of the burned settlement. Not sweetness and light folks.
let him without sin cast the first stone.
Self righteousness will kill us all.
An eye for an eye will leave the world blind.

Yes of course it is a religion of peace and should not be judged by the what some of the followers of Islam are doing. Do yourself a favour and read the Quran and the books of hadith by Al Bukhari.

Just because some groups like the Al-Qaeda or Hezbollah or Hamas or one of those terrorist organization say they are acting in the name of Islam doesn't mean they are Muslims. They are just terrorists who have hijacked the religion for their own agenda. Most of the Muslims that I have met are very peaceful people and just want to be left alone.

YES, Islam is a Religion of Peace...And Muslims are allowed to Defend ourselves if we are un-justly attacked, which is what you see happening in the Middle East.
