I've never yelled but I have made it a point to defend cashiers and other workers from verbally abusive customers since they can't defend themselves. They're grateful because, as another customer, I can say things to other customers that the employees would get fired for saying.
I was glad to see a manager approach a verbally abusive customer who was berating a hispanic cashier and making an insane amount of sarcastic, cruel comments - had the poor girl crying. I gave the customer a piece of my mind and the manager told the customer to leave, banning her from the store and telling her not to come back. The other customers applauded him as the woman left.

I haven't run into an extreme situation yet. But I definately would.
One time a friend of mine was going through a tough time. She went off on a waitress over a small thing. Since I knew my friend was already going through a tough time I did not berate her. However, I went up to the waitresses manager and apologized for my friend and let her know that the waitress was not at all at fault and said that I liked her service.

I haven't personally-- but I have seen it happen when I worked at a jewelry counter in Kohl's.
I worked with a woman who was 80 years old, all there mentally, super wonderful, but moved a touch slow.
A customer started yelling at her to hurry up, then another customer started yelling at him for his lack of respect to a Senior.
They got into an all out yelling war that we had to call security as it almost came to blows...

I've never seen that, actually. In France, the customer is not always rigtht! I mean, customer service workers are usually helpful, but most of them wouldn't let people talk sh*t to them. But I'm sure it happens, once in a while.

I've never had the pleasure to, but I've always wanted to.
Ive worked a number of jobs where your number one duty is to smile and be happy. Its a horrible thing.
I think the best gratification I got was when I was working at a bakery. They lady was rambling on and on about her order and I couldn't keep up. She called me stupid (at the time I was working to pay for my college tuition). I didnt have to nerve to say thank you and give her her change, so i placed it on the counter and said goodbye. The lady behind her said very loudly to me, "I'm sorry you had to deal with that overweight bitter hag, she comes into my store all the time and everyone hates her." I think people like that need to realize how completely aweful they are. Most of them have probably never worked a day in their lives.

I was at Wal-Mart in the Jewelry department. There was one lady behind the counter who was writing out a special order for another customer. I was to be next in line.
As the lady finished up with the special order customer, she looked at me and greeted me very nicely. I was going to ask her to show me some earrings when all of a sudden this black man nudged me out of the way and started yelling at this lady, saying he had been there before me and that she was a racist, etc.
He was yelling at the top of his lungs and I just said to the lady, "go ahead and help him. I'll wait".
The lady behind the counter was (as I found out later) an Iranian with a fairly thick accent. This man belted out things I've never heard before....calling HER a racist terrorist and that she didn't want to help him because he was black.
As I backed away from the counter, this man continued to yell and call her every name in the book, which was taking up MY time, so I tapped him on the shoulder and asked him if he could please pick out the items he'd like to purchase so I could be helped.
He then started yelling at me, calling me a 'white-trash whore' among other things.
That was just about all I could handle, so I went up to the service desk and told them I needed the store manager to the jewelry department NOW....that there was a violent customer waiting for him.
The store manager never came out, but an assistant manager eventually showed up. The customer started hurling 'white-trash' remarks to the assistant, who then paged a certain 'code' over the intercom and suddenly EVERY male worker came running to the jewelry department. It was just overwhelming to see about 50 guys run into the jewelry department. I was so afraid!
But, as soon as they all were standing there, the customer started flipping everyone off, yelling obscenities and all, so they basically started carrying him to the front of the store. All the commotion caused a huge crowd at the front of the store.
The police came and calmed everything down and then took this customer to a small room to talk to him.
I followed them into the room. I just walked right in. They might have thought I was with him! But I was able to tell the police everything I witnessed with that ******* right in front of me, and it felt SO GOOD!
My hat is off to anyone who works in the customer service field.

No, but I will apologize to the worker after the rude person leaves, and if I notice someone being rude to my waiter I'll leave a larger tip.

I've thought about it. But unfortunatly, in my line of work(I am a customer service rep), that can get me fired. I've had people tell me that they are going to sue me, talk to my boss and get me fired, talk to her boss and get us both fired, sue the company I work for, do "human interest" stories on the news about the company......so yes, when I hear people being rude to CSR's I would love to stand up and be rude back.

yes i have, i know the quote the customer is always right, but at my family store we have this thing called "papaya salad" and it contains sauces, papaya fruit shreddings, and peanuts and spices and some fruits. And this lady came in wanting some so i made it for her, while i was making it for her, she got a phone call saying she needed to go home, so she said to me, i'll take what you have and just go. And i said ," Are you sure, i only put in 2 sauces and the papaya fruit and some spices, it might not taste good," and she said "yeah i'll take it" and i said "would you like to taste it first before you buy it then" and she said "yeah" she tasted it and hated it and then started yelling at me saying "yuck, thats gross, its nasty, im not gonna buy it, its soo bad" and then we walked to the cashier place, and she started complaing again "uck i cant believe how bad it was, ugh im not gonna buy it" and then im thinking to myself yeah i know u already said that, and then she says, "that was so bad, look if you dont know how to make it then why are you making it here, you shouldnt make it at all if you dont know how" and then i got mad and said "look i said i didnt even finish all i put in was 5 things and u expect to taste good, it doesnt taste great till you finish it, i told you and warned you, i said i only needed some more time and i would of been done" and then she goes "yeah but it doesnt taste good at all" and i said nicely, "well do you expect it would taste good since all i had was 5 things," then she goes, "well it doesnt taste good and i dont think you know how to make it good" i said ive been working here for over 3 years mam, i think i make it pretty good, alot of people like my salad and enjoy it, but if i cant finish it, how do you expect it to taste," then i said "look mam, this is a buisness, what you are doing is rude and disrespectable to me, i am here to serve you and meet you needs, i support your needs, and we made our buisness for you, what you are doing is not right and not respectable, without us you wont have some of the things you need." Then she bought some stuff and gave me a dollar for making it, and i said thank you. I will go finish off my salad since you dont want it, i will finish it and eat it for myself.

Yes it was in Spain. An English-speaking guy was being very abusive to a non-English speaking waiter because he couldn't understand him. I was ashamed to be British that day.
