yes. the good news about NiMH is that you don't have to worry about any "memory effect". so you can charge, or recharge without it losing capacity. so best charge up the battery when you open the box.

The correct answer is given by daud541. Last hint: if you do this properly your battery lifespan will be maximal. So after the first 3 times you have to empty the battery completely.
From Wikipedia: Brand new batteries, or batteries which have been unused for some time, need "reforming" to reach their full capacity. For this reason new batteries may need several charge/discharge cycles before they operate to their advertised capacity.

The NiCad batteries are probably undesirable in the journey that they received't value. Their charging cycles are lesser than lithium ion or NiMH. yet when this is operating, toss the NiCads contained in the trash and use the NiMH batteries. NiCad batteries suck besides.

Yes because initialy when batteries are charged, they can not reach upto there full charge. They need to be charged and discharge 3 to 4 times, before ataining their full potential.
