1. Using a pair of pointed precision tweezers, grasp the tick by the head or mouth parts where it enters the skin. DO NOT grasp the tick by the body.

Etched or rasped fine-point tweezers may not be effective in removing deer ticks. Choose unrasped fine-point tweezers whose tips align tightly when pressed firmly together.

2. With a slow, smooth motion, pull firmly and steadily outward. DO NOT twist the tick. DO NOT apply petroleum jelly, a hot match, alcohol or any other irritant to the tick. This can cause the tick to burrow more deeply, and expel more bacteria into the blood.

3. Place the tick in a jar of alcohol to kill it.

4. Clean the wound with disinfectant. Monitor the bite for a rash for three to 30 days. Be alert for other symptoms of Lyme disease. If a rash or other early symptoms develop, see a physician immediately.

If They Are Ticks You Will Have To Take Her To The Vet Because If You Just Pull A Tick Off Sometimes The Head Of The Tick Remains In The Animal Not Nice.

I am a country boy, deep woods off dont help me here if ya get my drift, I have raised papered walker coondogs for 15 years. If your dog has short hair its easy, grab the fat grey tick by its sides, try to pull slowly back while gently sqeezing the tick between the fingers, it should pop right off. put it in a cup of gas or oil, gas if you want to burn em quick. If you have a whooly long haired dog ( I have had numerous mutts, chows, akitas and others too) part the hair first until you can see the skin around the the tick. Use the same method as above to remove em. Remeber you dont want to squeeze to hard, you might popem. Thats when you need tweezers to get the head out. As far as the other answers are concerned those are all ok methods for removing ticks from people and dogs too I guess, but its a little extreme. When you sqeeze a tick, its first reaction is to throw all of its arms straight out. When you pull back it will loosen their bite as well. Check the tick to see if there are anteni or fang looking things on the head, if there isnt a head ( blood everywhere ) then you get the tweezers, if a big bump apears and stays for a week take the dog to the vet to double check. I am a country boy, and have pulled more than my fair share of ticks off of my dogs and myself, I live in a place where lyme happens, but never had a problem. Oh and if you go to walmart or costco, look for hartz once a month 4 n 1 teatment. Get the right weight class, but instead of putting the whole dose on the dog run one stripe from the base of the neck to the base of the tail, Hartz doent work if you use too much, vet never tell people that because they want you to buy their expensive crap that does the same thing. The Hartz stuff has a cap, and should be used every 5 weks instead of four. Lower doses work best in this case. I dont know why, I just know it works for me and mine. Bye the bye I live twenty minutes from the nearest store, and thats before 1100 pm after is close to forty minutes to drive. Best of luck and try not to be too foofoo about it. Be brave and GET-R-DONE!!!!

ticks don't fall off on their own, even after they are dead. if you've never properly removed a tick then i suggest you take her into a vet or a groomer and let them take care of it.

the tick is hanging on with their jaws of life to your dog sucking out blood. so they must be pulled off head and all. that can get tricky especially if they are very small. if the head stays attached the skin around it will eventually grow over it and cause an infection.

after the ticks are gone and your dog is clean and back in ship-shape you should put some pest prevention on her skin. i prefer frontline.
and also check your yard. you may have a nest back there somewhere.

Give your dog a flea and tick bath (always start with the head) and the remove the ticks.. there is a treatment you can buy that you just put down their back and it will kill fleas and ticks too... But for sure you should remove the ticks and bathe your dog!!!

A hot match head. Yes you get a little burn over the site, but the tick does let go and a little burn is easier to live with than the Fever. i searched it from the net. but i suggest that instead of burning, try to put chopped garlic onto your dog's dog food, coz years before our dog also have many ticks, my father put some chopped garlic onto our dog's food, then a week after, his ticks gone off, i think it's because when dogs ate garlic, their body will slightly be kinda warm, and ticks will not stay that long, so they die. hope this will help!!

Pull the tick off & flush it. If it's carrying a disease, it will make your dog sick. (which is uncommon, so dont panic. :o))

For future-- use Frontline. You can get it online or from your vet. It works great. We recently moved to a home with a wooded lot. Our dogs had at least 2 ticks pulled off them a week ... since we've been using Frontline, we've seen one tick (in the past 3 months). It works wonders!!!

What kind of animals? If they are burrowing into the skin they are ticks, and you need to get to the vet NOW to get them removed, unless you think you can get rid of the whole tick. If you pull the body off of the tick the head will still burrow into the skin, and you will have big problems then. Good luck.

Go to the pet store and buy Frontline flea and tick for dogs. If it's too bad, go to the vet. You can probably call the vet and he/she can recommend something. It might save you the price of a visit.

Are you talking about ticks? It is best you don't remove them. Give her a flea/tick shampoo and that will kill it and it will fall out by itself. It may take a day or two but it will die from the shampoo. Don't use Hartz brand!
