Atheists are hated more than any other group, including homos.

Disapproval of atheists is alive & well.

According to God, homosexuality is very wrong. Everyone has the right to disapprove of a person's lifestyle. There is nothing wrong with that. But the fact that many homosexuals are victims of hate - that's what's wrong. I'm a Christian woman. While I highly disagree with the choice that homosexuals make, I still treat them with the respect and kindness that every person is entitled to as people. The actual moral disapproval is not bigotry. The hate and intolerance are the bigotry. It's all in the way a person ACTS or TREATS OTHERS, not the way they think.

I really think we've made progress as a nation over the last few decades in this regard but we sure have a long way to go if we want to really be comfortable with the issue, socially speaking that is, because most people are personally uncomfortable with it (personal opinion). But time brings other issues, like religion for instance. It won't be long before Muslims in the united states will be more and more scrutinized for the way some factions of their religion do business (they already are obviously but I'm thinking on like a Mcarthian scale). Something that is also obvious from spending some hours on this website is that many people are very angry with most organized religions, so it might be, that one day, being affiliated with any religion could be a cause for moral disapproval. Who knows. I'm sure that among many, it already is.

This is a good question to ask, as it prompts deep thought.

I agree with you that the disapproval of homosexuality is indeed one of the last few socially accepted bigotries in the U.S., but I honestly cannot think of any others. I'm sure there are some, but they do not leap to mind. It could be that I am so biased in some areas as that I cannot even overcome this line of thinking to realize that it is a bigotry. That's how many have worked in the past.

Drug Addicts / Users and criminals are also subject to bigotry.

I am of the opinion when someone pays their debt to society they should be allowed a chance to fully re-enter that society, not denied the right to vote. There should be exceptions like Child molesters shouldn't be allowed to be grade school teachers, but Ex-felons do receive bigotry.

Drug Users as well face a social stigma and also are subject to bigotry when they are ill (addicted). Seems like human compassion goes out the window in these examples.

I must agree though, atheists are probably more hated than any group.

it's horrible that such bigotry is acceptable - i mean seriously, no one is forcing anyone to be gay. so we should let them do what they want.

in the same vein, i've noticed transexuals and transvestites are also scorned. sure we all loved rupaul and thought the whole idea was funny. we watched dustin hoffman don a wig and play a strangely attractive woman.....
but when people see a guy dressed like a girl in the street they get offended. they yell things. they throw things sometimes.
a very good friend of mine is a trannie (no operation) and he's scared to dress and act the way he wants, but is miserable being a guy. he's afraid of what people will do to him if they find out he wants to be a girl. nature does out of the ordinary things sometimes and we need to accept that fact, and not hate the person.

like others have said, atheists and drug addicts are also hated for really stupid reasons.

Thsi is not a fair question b one can disapprove of a behavior in this case homesexual sex and not be a bigot . Bigotry is more than sayiong soemthing is wrong it is a behavior of it self . In both words and actions .
I disaprove of smoking yet i do niot hate smokers .

lets use basic logic all antoi gay bigots disaprov of homosedxualty . but notall those who disaprove of homeseual acts ar bigots .

the question is a well worded set up .
and c ircualr in it logic . .
BTW Why are pople so danm concerend about others sex lives .
There are lotos of things to be concerendabout who some one has sex with is not one of them unless it is your spouse or partner ans a person other than your self .

Bt it des ril up pople to vote against thier own self interests !

Yes.

There are people in the world who love to hate others.
Maybe it's their own insecurities that make them need to feel superior to someone else.

Regardless, their favorite target now are homosexuals.

The homophobes of today are no different than the racists and antisemites of decades past. They're just choosing an easier target.

This isn't an answer to your question but I was intrigued by JT's response. As I look over the questions and answers, it appears that Christians are the main group that are vilified and hated by the atheists and homosexuals.

Moral disapproval and bigotry are not one in the same.

Depends on what society you are discussing. In the South or Midwest, probably not. In San Francisco, it is not "socially acceptable" to point out that it is sinful.
