Please don't give "I don't know" or "I guess" answers. I want a REAL answer to this question.

In my experience as a board member and/or volunteer with various nonprofit organizations that serviced the homeless and needy families, we often received unsold clothing from department stores. Some stores send unsold clothing back to the manufacturer; some donate the clothing as I mentioned, plus send some overseas; and some is relegated to outlet and surplus stores. Unfortunately, I also saw some stores sending clothing and other perfectly good items to the landfills, which they did rather than take the time to return it to the manufacturer or donate it to people who are in need.

"Better" department stores, such as Dilliards and Neiman Marcus, eventually pull the clothes and send them to an "end of the line" store, where they are marked at such a low price that they eventually get sold. Usually the items are marked at 75 percent off for a given time, then 50 percent for another, and so on. I've been to several and the deals are awesome. My girlfriends and I used to mark our calendars for the days when the markdowns would occur.

They take each and each of the seen sort call tags off them and deliver them to inexpensive shops the position they're resold for extraordinarily low expenditures. So those jeans that folk pay $80 for someone might want to purchase 6 months down the line for below $5.

They go to discount stores where they are re-labelled and are sold cheaper. You can sometimes remove patches on a sweatshirt and find labels like American Eagle, Gap etc. underneath.

They're given away to shelters. Or, they're sold in bulk to companies who then sell them super cheap.
