Hint: It appears in Genesis, chapter 3. By religion, I mean man's attempt to clothe himself in holiess to get closer to God.

I have to go, so I'll write this now. Man's first attempt at religion came in the Garden of Eden after Adam sinned. Adam and Eve covered themselves with fig leaves to cover their sin, and make themselves appear holy to God. Our fig leaves today is church attendance, doing good works, altruism, all things we do to make ourselves appear holy to God.

In the Garden, God replaced their fig leaves with skins of animals, pointing to the fact that by the shedding of innocent blood, our sins will be forgiven.

The whole basis of the Christian faith started way back in Genesis.

The oldest religion on record is hinduism but to answer your question. I think you are refering to when Adam And Eve felt shame after eating what God forbid them to eat. According to Genesis they saw eachother in nakedness and felt shame, thus they clothed themselves

Let's just say that there wasn't any need of religion (Man's atempt to get to God) until after the fall of Adam. Up to that time they were in communion with God.

The fig leave garments were an attempt to cover shame. Not really attempting to draw close to God.

Cain killed Abel because his sacrifice was not accepted as was Abel's.

Enoch walked with God so he did not need religion.

Anyone remember the Tower of Babel? Man's futile attempt to reach God. Some still try their own religions to get to Him. The Only Way was through sacrifices...blood sacrifices, for without blood there was no atonement for sin. This is why Jesus had to die. He is the Only Way to the Father!

Yes Man's first attempt to worship God started by Enoch, the seventh from Adam. Enoch was so pure and righteous and walked with God in a perfect heart. God raised him to Heaven because of that and he never died. He was 365 years old when God took him to be with Him.

If you mean in the cave man days, then no - no one knows.

They failed to write anything intelligible down so that we would really understand what they were getting at.

The earliest written religion is Zoroastrianism around 1200 BC.

All the other ones were finally put to paper, papyrus, or stone later.

Of course most people believe that religion existed before being written down and that it was passed along in oral traditions. It makes sense and follows the path of several religions that were oral and later written down.

But sadly, whichever was first is probably long gone and forgotten.

Adam spoke to God directly it said every afternoon in the breezy part of the day. So Adam knew the truth and had a close intimate relationship with his creator. Everything was going real good until Eve was made. First time a female was created and they really liked it. I mean they really liked it.
Left heaven and jobs up there knowing God would destroy them.

Nice try, but religion stems from long before the Torah was written. It was probably a worship of fire, or thunder storms, since they could produce fire, something they needed to survive.

Archeologists think it was either sun worship or ancestral worship. The earliest signs of civilization that we have evidence of are burial rites.
