Some dogs do eat feces. It's a condition called "corophagia", and it has nothing to do with the breed of the dog. Female dogs with litters of pups will eat the pups' feces to keep the "nesting area" clean; other dogs eat feces because they enjoy the taste. There are medications and food additives you can give the dogs to make their feces less palitable to them... but there are dogs who like the taste of that, too.

Yes, it's normal. Even dogs know the "don't leave a mark" rule! In the wild they will do this to clean up after themselves. You can train a puppy not to do it. Sometimes it's caused by lack of adequate nutrition or illness in older dogs. I wouldn't be concerned for your neighbour's dog, as I can tell you deeply are. ;)

I wouldn't say normal as most people train their dogs not to do this but yes dogs do eat other dogs and their own poop. Usually you see this with puppies because they don't know any better. They can eaily be trained not to eat this however. Sometimes in an older dog this can indicate a lack of nutrition within the body of the dog.

Yes, this is a very common thing with all breeds, or mixes of dogs. Disgusting, but common.
If you want to give you neighbor a tip as to how to stop this, tell them to put some Adolf's meat tenderizer on his/her food. It will make it taste nasty, even to the dogs taste buds. Good luck

Our dog used to do this, we asked the vet about it and he said it was not a problem but gave us one piece of advice - Don't tell the visitors when the dog licks their face!!

Dogs occassionally do eat their own excrement.
It is caused by a lack of minerals in their diet.

Yeah it's gross, but my 10 year old dog does it sometimes,
mostly during the winter. It's really gross, but it happens.
Besides, it is a DOG.

Yes. Dogs may eat their poop because they may smell the food they have eaten in that poop, therefore causing him to eat it.
