My mother just home from a week in the hospital. She's getting up all through the night, to pee. Once, she peed on herself. She's never done that before. I'm trying to keep a close eye on her, because she's now on Oxygen & she likes to go outside & smoke (I can't stop her, I just have to watch like a hawk & make sure she doesn't go outside w/that oxygen on, that's why I'm watching her so close). I take her to the Dr. Tuesday, but I'd like to see if I could find out an answer now. Would the fluids, given to her in the hospital, cause her to urinate more often? If so, about how long will it be before all of that gets out of her system & she's back to normal (as far as how often she urinates?) Only serious answers, please. Thank you.

Is she on Lasix or one of the diuretics, if your Mom is a smoker she probably has COPD and is on a diuretic, have her take it earlier in the day. Get on line and look up her meds so you will know what you are dealing with.
Now your mom is a big girl, capable of making her own decisions. Her smoking and using O2 is dangerous for you and your house. your mom choose self destructive bx. Don't become consumed with her sickness. When this job gets overwhelming you need to look at a nursing home or a visiting nurse
