Dear God NO!!!! The world is a richer place with more than one language. We should all be able to speak more than one language, even if only a little. It always bugs me to see Germans speaking English with a German accent in WWII films, or the French speaking English with a French accent in a movie, etc. I'd rather see subtitles and hear the original language - its usually a better performance than a "dubbed" movie anyway. On one of the Latin Rock music stations I listen to there are occassionally songs in French - language isn't limited to any one particular culture. Enrich your world - learn at least one language other than your own. I'd also like to read books in the original language. My father told me once that he saw a John Wayne movie in Paris. When Mr. Wayne said "Howdy" it was translated as "Enchante' ", which essentially means "enchanted to meet you" which is NOT what "howdy" really translates to. Earth languages are starting to include other languages in theirs - language changes over time. Twenty years ago you wouldn't have been talking about your iPod. Maybe we should all know a common language, but to only speak one language on this planet would be a perverted tragedy. Tell the Italians they have to sing their operas in English, and you'll get the idea.

Yeah! Wot's a launguage?
People who speak this launguage should definitely stick together.
The rest of us will muddle through with French, English, German, Spanish etc. etc.

Defitely. As the issues are "planetary" the best way to handle them is to understand each other, and this means to speak the same language.
Right now, I write in english...and I am french. I don´t feel I am losing anything using your language. My cultural roots are not going to disappear because I use your words.
On the contrary, I see this as a progress; exactly what the "humanity" needs.

Not at all its like the whole Euro thing thats going on which I am totally against. I like the fact that the world is made up of a variety of cultures and languages, the diversity make it more interesting and allows a lot of different views and attitudes to exist why would we all want to be the same it would be like living in communist russia surely??

No it should never happen. Languages are among the most important parts of a people's identity. They characterise a culture. If we'd all speak the same language we'd loose our rich diversity of cultures. In my opinion, far too many languages are already being influenced too much (or should I say 'polluted') by English.

Paul H has already expressed my opinion pretty accurately.

"Now just why in the Hell do I have to press one for English?" -bumper sticker on the window of Geno's Steaks in Philadelphia

It would be much easier but at the rate that America (nopt just the world) is going at we can't. We can just develop one big language and teach it to everyone. It would be like educating/re-educating 8 billion people by the time it's developed. Plus you have the regions and places that are not accessable because they are so remote like African villages and other places that are either remote or want to stick to their traditions.

No. The world would be so much poorer if we all spoke the same language.
But if you insist, then I guess we should all speak the language that is spoken by the greatest number of people?, so I guess we'd all better start learning Chinese eh?

yes, we should, so that everybody understands each other better. It is a part of evolution. Everything local is limiting our ability to combine all our minds in order to progress.
