You are wanting a dachshund and want to know if they are good dogs? They tend to have back problems so you can't let them get overweight. They can be stubborn at house breaking and they love to dig. But they can be great pets if you are willing to work with them and obedience training will be very helpful. Don't let them get up on furniture because it is the jumping off that can really mess their back up. Good luck.

Yes, they are good dogs, just like every dog on the planet is a good dog to someone. There is no such thing as a "best dog," what you need to do is research the dog that's right for you. I would search about this breed's temperament, genetic health problems, etc, and then make a decision. Every dog has **something** negative about it; you just have to decide if that something negative is something you can live with. (For instance: bassets will follow their noses anywhere; Goldens shed on EVERYTHING; etc.) Good luck!! :)
(PS: I personally would have considered a dachsund except I love playing fetch and going to the beach: a Golden just suited my lifestyle better. You just have to find the dog that's right for you!)

good but tend to be possessive of owner if there is two of you in the home will favor one over the other

They're called dachsunds, and yes, from what I understand, they are good pets. They can be a little territorial, so I would only get one.
