I've always wanted to work on board a cruise ship, especially on the Mediterranean but it seems the resources are limited. Does anyone here know of a way to get my foot in?

Every cruise line has on line information. Best to find out what city near you they may be interviewing in.

Are you aware of the living conditions for crew on a cruise ship. If not I highly recommend you do some research. For it is no LOVE BOAT TV show cabin.
You always in beginning share a cabin, very small cabin, and a number of other negatives.
But it is a fun job is you can work with the passengers.

If you are an American citizen, I would really sugguest you contact NCL Cruise lines.
They need people really bad for their Hawaiian ships. Not the Mediterranean, but get you on board a ship and see if you like.

Go to cruise line websites and research job opportunities. Also, goole this question and do research on the Internet. Talk to travel agents asking their help in best way to go about getting a job.
Take a cruise and talk to every cruise staff member you can and have copies of Resume with you to present.
Good luck with this endeavor!!

I would suggest contacting each cruise line company and telling them what position you are interested in doing. Then, follow up on it.

A crew member's life is not luxury on board. It is hard work from sunup to long into the night and the pay is minimal.

The officer jobs are for college grads only in specialised areas like finance, hotel management, and dining room managment.

A service person like a waiter or cabin steward relies on tips for the main part of their money. It is crappy work and crappy living conditions. Usually these are from Eastern Europe or orther 3rd world countries.

The mechanics are skilled workers and have had many years of experience.

The singers and dancers are recruited from agents.

Not too many jobs and lots of competition for low pay and hard work. It is not easy like was shown on The Love Boat.

Try to get a job as a Steiner or Gift Shop. I did that for 5 years. Those are the easiest jobs.
Go to starboardcruise.com They are owned by Louis Vutton, its who i worked for. They do the shops for Royal Carribean (4 ships in the Med) Holland America, Celebrity, Carnival, Costa and heaps more. It was real easy for me to get the job with no experience......
Work in the shops or casino and you always have port time off as they are not allowed to be opened in port.
