Take him to AA (or NA if the problem is drugs). Stay for the meeting, then stay after and help him to ask others for help. The people there will be able to point him in the right direction. There are plenty of free services if you know how to find them.

You could also take him to a emergency room if the situation is dire; they'll be able to get him in treatment.

If Alcohol is his problem try AA, it's free, nobody there will look down or judge him, they are just like him. After the meeting, find somebody who has been there awhile, he or she can show your friend the ropes(there in the yellow pages).

If its drugs try NA, CA, it think there's even a place for meth heads.

If hospitalization is necessary, try ER or call around

Where are you situated? If you are in or near the New York area, call this number: 212-987-5120. Explain who you are, asked to be put through to admissions and tell them your situation. This is a residential therapeutic community and it's called Odyssey House. They should be able to help him. If they asked where you get the information from, tell them. I hope he gets help. Also let them know his financial situation. Good luck.

I don't think you really can help. Except to be his friend.
Have you contacted his family?
Remember If he does not want help, he will reject you and continue until HE hits bottom.
Keep an eye on him--- call 911 when he screws up--- once the medics put him in the system, some times it can work.
Good luck

That is hard to answer not knowing what his condition or situation is. There are different types of programs and grants for different needs. Medical, alcoholic, drug abuse etc..

Need more information..what state you are in as to what programs they may offer..etc.. His age..
