I'm amazed at the misinformation regarding the martyrdom of the early Christians. They were offered the opportunity to worship Caesar, and if they refused, they were tossed to the lions. They knew this would be the consequence if they refused. They -chose- the lions, rather than worship a false god.

Is there a point in asking any Christian today whether they'd do the same? Has being Christian become so safe that any self-delusional fool can be one?

Last question from me today, folks. I've used up my quota.

Thanks for the answers.

Callie: You would turn the children of Columbine into Christian martyrs? Are you stating they were given the choice to renounce and live, or were they just scared kids who didn't know what was going on?

I have respect for martyrs, they chose their fate, given the choices. The victims of Columbine weren't given those choices, so far as I've heard.

Sandy: Note that you've inserted the word "true" before "Christian". I did not use that word in my question.

Christians cannot agree amongst themselves what constitutes a "true Christian". And because of this, those of us who are not Christian must look upon Christianity as a religion that cannot get it's house in order.

In some religions, there are many ways to 'heaven'. But in Christianity, there is only "one way", and inevitably it is whatever way the "Christian" speaking believes in, all other ways are "wrong". Just look at your own answers, and how stridently you protested that -you- had answered me. Did it ever occur to you that every person who answered feels -their- way was just as true for them as yours is for you?

It occurs to me every time I read an answer.

You can turn a blind eye to the other varieties of Christianity if you wish, but I cannot. I cannot pronounce judgment on who is, and who is not a Christian. As far as I can tell, you all believe you're saved

Because their leaders know that giving them extensive knowledge would result in turning many away from Christianity.

Its all about control buddy. And ignorance is their greatest weapon.

I personally would die rather than deny Jesus Christ. If those were the terms--deny my savior or die--I would choose death.

Christianity is not "safe." No self-delusional fool can be a true Christian if he or she is delusional with regard to God and the Son of God.

All other manner of delusion may co-exist with Christianity. Christianity is a religion of imperfect people. This is why Christ came--to pay the price for our sins since the only 100% fact one could count on with regard to human behavior was that we WOULD sin.

Robert D...Christianity in its true sense...is about a personal relationship with God. Its about freedom from a dictatorial or controlling religion. History can be learned...many are lazy. Many "churches" that want to control their followers may not truly pass the test of "Christian".

What are you trying to say, does not make any sense. We do know the history of christianity and we know that their will be a time when you will probably die for our faith and belief (presently happening). Being a christian does not mean you can stop anyone from following your faith, which religion you know stop anyone from joining?

Christianity is not so safe to day. Instead of being eaten by lions people either hate us or ostracize us when they find out. Being persecuted for your faith still happens today and it is not fun. Following God is not an easy road.

Oh, we Christians know that!!!

And we also know that Christians killed other Christians!!!

What else is news?

Many modern Christians have had to give their lives for their beliefs : check out what happened in the communist countries.

Some of us are ignorant of the history of christianity because it is not christianity that counts. It is my life with God that matters. The history of christianity will take me nowhere.Anyhow your question is petinent.

i believe Israel [Christians] was attacked by Rome after the death of Christ because it sounds to me like Jesus was a roman citizen....might be wrong, but, Jesus' foster father was Joseph of Aramethea. he was an uncle to the virgin Mary. as in Jewish tradition, when Jesus was 13 yr.s old, he adopted Jesus' family after the death of Joseph, Jesus' step father. Joseph of Aramethea was a provincial senator in the roman government. next to the Cesar, he was the richest man in the roman empire. it was forbidden for a Jew to kill a roman citizen. the Jews had to force pilot into passing sentence on Jesus. pilot was beheaded by Cesar and war was declared on Israel, thus the killing of Christians began. they and all of Israel were blamed for the death of Christ.

i think most christians today would scoff at the idea. they would be too proud to succumb to proving their religiousity.

i'm not saying that it's a good thing, though.

but i think that's just the way people (in general) are today.

Because many so-called Christians are ignorant anyway, so what's the difference?
I'm not saying all Christians are, but stick around on this board for a while and see what some of them post.
